1971 VW Bus For Sale
This is the original Sportsmobile Conversion with newer canvas and comes with the original paperwork from the dealership along with first owner's info and the accessories checklist info. Originally purchased from VW outside of Detroit Michigan. this is a bit of a project but it functional as a driver with minimal work (it's an old bus, what do you expect!) Please come see it or check the pictures thoroughly as I have it described and photoed as best as I can but it must be sold AS IS since I AM NO EXPERT! So please don't make any speculations about its condition. If you are unsure, ask BEFORE you bid. They aren't making these buses any more so don't miss your chance to find a rare solid bus!!
Sportsmobile pop top pops straight up unlike the tilting westfalia tops, so there is much more room up there.
Rear mattress and Z Bed are missing as well as the jumpseat and rear ceiling liner (SEE PICS). Closet is intact but needs help or replace entire interior with a westy setup from a scrapyard or check TheSamba website for parts.
This bus is very solid (see pics) with only minimal rust for its age. The engine is the correct year and start up and runs good. This was a daily driver for years.
Power Disc front brakes but there is a vacuum leak so the vacuum hose has been blocked off, the bus still stops well. The engine has a smaller 30/30PICT carb installed instead of the 34PICT-3 that was original equipment. This means better low end torque but less overall HP (you dont want to over rev these motors anyway. Forward mounted moving SPOTLIGHT to help set up your camp at night or see what's making all that noise in the bushes!!
Aftermarket exhaust with original heaterboxes (not attached to fan shroud)
Decent Tires
All lights work fine as well as speedo and warning lights
Needs 2 new CV BOOTS installed they are ripped but there doesn't seem to be any damage to the CVs themselves.
Fuel gauge is erratic.
They aren't making these buses any more so don't miss your chance to find a rare solid bus
This van is for sale locally and
I RESERVE THE RIGHT TO END THIS AUCTION EARLY
if it sells before the listing ends.
BID TO WIN!!!!

How VW's hyper-efficient XL1 will influence the next Golf
Mon, 18 Aug 2014In 2007, the European Union mandated fleet average CO2 emissions of 158.7 g/km. For 2015, that figure will drop to 130 g/km, and the target for 2020 is an ambitions 95 g/km. Thanks to some German politicking, that target will be phased in from 2020 to 2024, but it will still apply to 80 percent of passenger cars in that first year. In US miles per gallon, that's the equivalent of going from about 35 mpg to 42 mpg to 57 mpg. The current Volkswagen Golf is rated from 85 g/km of CO2 to 190 g/km depending on model - and zero for the e-Golf, so for the next-generation MkVIII hatch due in 2019, to meet the goal, Volkswagen engineers will need to introduce a bunch of new tricks. According to a report in Autocar, VW be mining its hyper-efficient XL1 for some of them.
Predictions for the next Golf include a variable-compression engine, an electric flywheel and an electric turbo, along with taking greater advantage of coasting. Volkswagen could be getting help from Audi with the electric turbo and variable-compression engine and electric turbo, with Audi already having shown off the former and brand technical boss Ulrich Hackenberg confirming the VW Group is working on the latter. It's possible the flywheel system could also have the mark of The Four Rings: Autocar mentions a British system that Volvo is testing, but the R18 e-tron Quattro racer has been using one for years.
The need for such features is because the company won't be able to net enough future gains from just aerodynamic improvements and advanced materials. As price will be a factor (the regulations are expected to "add hundreds of euros to the cost of building a car"), adding much more aluminum or carbon fiber is an unlikely option. We're told the next generation won't be longer or wider than the current car, and being Europe's most popular model, VW doesn't want to make a big bet on futuristic aero, but the report says the MkVIII will "likely" have "the most aerodynamic treatment yet seen on a production vehicle," the area where lessons learned from the XL1 will truly be seen.

Volkswagen Passat gets Wolfsburg Edition, priced from $23,495*
Tue, 23 Apr 2013Volkswagen has just announced a new Passat Wolfsburg Edition, which slots between the base S and mid-grade SE trims in terms of content and price. The automaker has not released any official photos of the car as of this writing (aside from the badge shot you see here, of course), but the Wolfsburg Passat will be visually set apart from the rest by a unique set of 16-inch alloy wheels.
The big host of upgrades for the Wolfsburg Edition are found inside, where buyers will enjoy standard amenities like leatherette seats (with bun-warmers on the front chairs), a power driver's seat, satellite radio and a media interface with iPod connectivity. Of course, this comes on top of the already standard Passat features like Bluetooth and auto on/off headlamps. The Wolfsburg Passat will only be available with the 2.5-liter five-cylinder engine and a six-speed automatic transmission.
Look for the 2013 Wolfsburg Edition Passat to hit dealerships in the very near future, priced from $23,495, *not including $795 for destination. Have a look below for Volkswagen's official press blast.
