1982 Volkswagen Vanagon - Engine Repairs Needed on 2040-cars
Ukiah, California, United States
My wondervan must finally be sold to some lucky buyer: -117,000~ miles - unleaded fuel -custom roof-rack [if you like] -bed with storage space below [if you like] -all sorts of nifty things, hard to list all! -manual trans. -Currently registered and tagged in Iowa. -tires are good. -muffler could use replacing! One of her 4 cylinders has gone downhill after too many trips, and she is now running on 3, making for a very weak engine! She can run on town-streets, but does not go on highways or up steep hills easily. I'm happy to leave her in her house-like form, or strip her out completely if you'd like to do your own work! She can be shipped if you pay for it. Let me know! FAQs: -How Much to Fix her professionally? You can do a Top Case Engine Fix - $1500 or a new engine [$5000+] -She's a 5 speed. -I've kept up on basic maintenance and repairs until the cylinder issues. -light rust, nothing serious -It's got a clean Iowa title in my name -It turns on and runs! -No poptop IMPORTANT NOTE: Upon listing it on EBAY this week, I saw the first ever odometer check for it in the vehicle report! When I bought the vehicle in 2012, the odometer said 113K and I believed it. I added 4k to it, now leaving the odometer clearly @ 117K~. If you look at the odometer report it says it had over 152K on it in 2002! Sounds like someone may have tampered with the odometer before me. This is new news to me. Sorry. I would imagine it's closer to 200k or more potentially, as Vanagon engines start having more malfunction after 180K I believe. for more info: davey.bar at gmail.com |

VW Chattanooga plant very close to UAW representation
Tue, 11 Nov 2014After months of fighting from both sides, it looks like the Volkswagen factory in Chattanooga, TN, might unionize under the United Auto Workers after all. According to a letter acquired by The Associated Press, VW and the UAW reportedly struck a deal last spring where the union agreed to stop its challenge of the organization vote with the National Labor Relations Board to help clear the way for the CrossBlue to be produced in Tennessee. In exchange, the automaker would recognize the UAW at the plant. Leaders of the Local 42 at the facility reportedly signed the letter.
It seems that such an agreement would clear the way for the factory to unionize after months of dispute. According to The Detroit News, under Tennessee law, workers aren't required to join the organization. Although, that might not be a problem. As of a few months ago, Local 42 already claimed to have signed around 700 of the plant's roughly 1,500 workers.
Controversy has constantly swirled around the possible unionization at the Chattanooga plant. The UAW held its official decision in February and lost 712 to 626. However, there were allegations of intense political pressure to make sure the ballot failed. A later report also found that VW was offered $300 million in incentives well before the vote to make sure things progressed to the "satisfaction of the State of Tennessee," but the deal was later retracted. In July, the UAW opened Local 42 on the campus in hopes of signing up a majority of the workforce by volunteering to be a part of it.
VW builds 250,000th Passat in Chattanooga in just two years
Sun, 26 May 2013It hasn't been without incident or union organizing drive, but the Volkswagen plant in Chattanooga, TN has built its 250,000 Passat in just a little over two years. The Night Blue Passat TDI with black leather has come just two years and five weeks after the first customer car came off the line on April 18, 2011.
In the last year the plant operated at the 150,000-unit capacity that it was intended for, but the downturn in Passat sales and subsequent worker layoffs mean it will be a challenge to repeat the feat. The plant does have the world's largest solar park, though, and you can't take that away from them.
You'll find the official hand-clapping in the press release below.
Volkswagen Cross Up! aimed at rugged lifestyle folks, complete with plastic cladding
Wed, 06 Mar 2013If you thought there was nothing wrong with the Volkswagen Up! that a little body cladding wouldn't fix, you're in luck. VW has officially pulled the wraps off the production version of the Cross Up!, and its wheel arches and rocker panels are full of the black plastic cladding you've been yearning for.
In addition to the "particularly rugged design and tough, lifestyle qualities" that the cladding exudes, VeeDub has also seen fit to put its Cross Up! on a new set of 16-inch alloy wheels clad in 185/50-series tires. Inside, there are new kick plates to go along with a dash pad that can be had in red, black or silver.
All that cladding must equal additional off-road readiness, right? Well, sure... just so long as you're fine with the same 75-horsepower three-cylinder engine that all other Up! models also feature, along with a five-speed manual transmission sending power to the front wheels, again, just like all other Up! models. The Cross Up! appears to have a taller ride height than other models, but we haven't been able to find out what - if any - changes have been made.
