The condition of the exterior, interior and engine can vary depending on the vehicle's history. See the seller's listing for full details and description of any imperfections.Seller Notes:"Does not run, needs new ECU and possibly a fuel injector or two. Has brand new head gaskets, does not leak when running. Missing deck lid, a better one can be custom made from plywood and sound deadening foam, something you would have to do for most engine conversions anyway. Carpet is intact but shows its age. There is one (shopping cart?) ding on the driver side, it is small and round, and can easily be removed. No hubcaps."

Condition:  Not running.  Builder or project.  Body is great, barely any minor surface rust at all, paint intact, straight, only one minor dent on driver side.  Glass is all intact and clean, no cracks.  Undercarriage free of rust.  Has 4 almost new BF Goodrich All Terrain T/A tires, no dry rot on tires.  Interior complete, has all seats, has original carpet.  Seats and carpets show their age, but are not damaged structurally.  Has 2 good Pioneer door speakers and working Jensen 2 x 40 amplifier, but no stereo (it is junk).  Dash is clean, not cracked, and not dry rotted.  Headliner perfect and intact.  Has new sway bar link, hard to find now.  Has 4 new OEM shocks that have not been installed, still NIB.  Has an entire extra engine and fuel injection parts, engine needs head gasket but block is intact.  Syncro is among the rarest of the rare now, they are being cannibalized for parts, finding a clean, complete builder with good transmission, viscous coupling, locker, diff, and driveshaft is tough to do, here is your chance.  The engine in it runs, it just needs time to be worked on, something I just don't have.  With a battery, the engine cranks fine, and will even sputter and run a bit sometimes, though not well, as it really does need some testing and work.  This is a chance to earn a one of a kind vehicle that is considered a collector's item.  It is a prime candidate for an engine conversion (anything from mild to wild), and can be made to run as is.  This is a VERY capable off road vehicle, google "vanagon syncro offroad" for some idea of what it can do.  This is a cult classic vehicle made of solid German steel.  It is sturdy, well-engineered, and years ahead of its time.  This is a great price for a vehicle you simply can't find now.  There are never more than a few for sale anywhere in the country.

VW launches special edition Touareg X

Tue, 03 Dec 2013

Volkswagen is no stranger to special editions, but its Touareg SUV has remained largely unspecial in terms of exclusive trims or unique packages. That's changed with the announcement of the Touareg X, a 1,000-unit run based on the V6 TDI Lux trim - mid-range diesel model, between the navigation-equipped TDI Sport and the TDI R-Line.
The already special Touareg gets 19-inch "Moab" wheels, LED taillights (to go along with its LED DRLs) and "Touareg X" badging, while all 1,000 units will be painted Moonlight Blue Pearl. Tweaks in the cabin are equally light, with a black-on-black-on-black color scheme dominating - black Vienna leather, a black headliner and piano black trim. Aluminum bits make an appearance in the form of the door sills and pedals, although that's about it.
Other than those few aesthetic tweaks, the Touareg X is equipped largely like the Touareg Lux on which it's based. That means navigation, a panoramic sunroof, power seats, LED running lights, dual-zone air conditioning and heated power seats, among other tech pieces. Pricing starts at $56,170, making for a slight bump of $1,195 over the standard Touareg Lux.

VW Super Bowl teaser with Jimmy Cliff is like a less-mean Tosh.0 Web Redemption

Thu, 24 Jan 2013

Reggae super-duper-star and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Jimmy Cliff has been using music to send positive vibes out into the universe for decades now, so its no surprise that his message on behalf of Volkswagen is one of redemption.
Dubbed Sunny Side, this web-spot is VW's warmup of sorts for what promises to be another blockbuster year in the world of Super Bowl commercials. Without giving away the game, the euphonious commercial sees Cliff opening his arms and his heart to some YouTube 'celebrities' that might see courser treatment from the likes of Tosh.0, for instance. We can't help but be reminded of Coca-Cola's legendary 1971 Hilltop spot with the "I'd like to buy the world a Coke" lyric, too.
Enjoy the pre-Super Bowl VW spot below, and don't forget to pay it forward... your karma will thank you. For those of you that just can't get enough of commercial-making magic, we've included a "making-of" video, as well.

VW makes $9.2B offer for rest of truckmaker Scania

Sun, 23 Feb 2014

Volkswagen owns or has controlling interests in three commercial truck operations: besides its own, VW began buying shares in Sweden's Scania in 2000 and now controls 89.2 percent of its shares and 62.6 percent of its capital, then bought into Germany's Man in 2006 - in order to prevent Man from trying to take over Scania - and now owns 75 percent of it. The car company has managed to work out 200 million euros in savings, but believes it can unlock a total of 650 million euros in savings if it takes outright control of Scania and can spread more common parts among the three divisions.
It has proposed a 6.7-billion-euro ($9.2 billion) buyout, but according to a Bloomberg report, Scania's minority investors don't appear inclined to the deal. Although effectively controlled by VW, Scania is an independently-listed Swedish company, and a profitable one at that: in the January-September 2013 period its operating profit was 9.4 percent compared to Man's 0.4 percent. Some of the other shareholders believe that Scania is better off on its own and will not approve the deal, some have asked an auditor to look into the potential conflict of interest between VW and Man, while some are willing to examine the deal and "make an evaluation based on what a long-term owner finds is good," which might not be just "the stock market price plus a few percent." The buyout will only be official assuming VW can reach the 90-percent share threshold that Swedish law mandates for a squeeze-out.
Many of the arguments against boil down to investors believing that Scania's Swedishness and unique offerings are what keep it profitable, and ownership by the German car company will kill that. (Have we heard that somewhere before?) If Volkswagen can buy that additional 0.8-percent share in Scania, perhaps its buyout wrangling with Man will give it an idea of what it's in for: "dozens" of minority investors in the German truckmaker have filed cases against VW, seeking higher prices for their shares. It is likely only to delay the inevitable, though. If VW is really going to compete with Daimler and Volvo in the truck market, it has to get the size, clout and savings to do so.
