Rare 1989 VW 40th Anniversary Edition "Star Blue". I have been unable to obtain exact production #s but their is only 9 registered in existence on cabby info. If you search cabby info, You can verify the information I have provided on the Star Blue anniversary edition. The Star Blue came stock with the helios blue interior. Stock with the exception of the aftermarket cd player but cds do not play. PA STATE INSPECTED UNTIL 6/2014. AUTO. 174,000 MILES. Convertible top is in fair condition with no rips or tears. NO boot cover for top. REPLACED recently ball joint, exhaust manifold gasket/doughnut, fuel pump relay. The following have been replaced within the last year or 2- Exhaust, Radiator, CV shaft, and convertible top. Tires are about 60%. THE BAD: Door handles stick & pull out so need replaced or repaired. Power steering leak. Ac & cruise control are there but not sure if they work. Ac would need recharged. Paint job is stock & 25 years old so its far from perfect. Car is for sale locally so I reserve the right to end the auction at any time. Payment within 3 days auction end. |

Volkswagen breaks 40-year-old sales record in 2012
Sun, 13 Jan 2013The last time Volkswagen moved this many vehicles in America in one year, Richard Nixon was still a President in good standing, Let It Be was a radio hit and each car wearing the VW badge boasted an air-cooled engine. That's right, with a grand total of 580,286 vehicles sold in the US last year, the VW Group has broken its own four-decades-old sales record by 2,899 vehicles.
Of that 580k total sold, 438k were Volkswagens and 139k were Audi products - increases of 35.1 percent and 18.5 percent, respectively, in year-over-year sales. The ultra-premium members of the VW group also fared well; Bentley delivered 2,315 vehicles for a 23.3-precent increase, and Lamborghini delivered 520 units for a 52.9-percent jump. Bugatti, we're told is "right on track."
Jetta (pictured) sales paced the marque with 170k models sold, and Passat also finished very strong with sales of 117k total. Tiguan also racked up its best year on file, with 31,731 models shifted.
VW confirms new TDI for second half of 2014 in Golf, Jetta, Passat and Beetle

Volkswagen is bringing the latest iteration of its 2.0-liter four-cylinder diesel engine - dubbed the EA288 - to the 2015 model year Golf, Jetta, Passat, Beetle (2013 model pictured above) and Beetle Convertible, and the cars will be on sale in the second half of 2014.
While it shares its moniker with the old diesel, the new engine produces 150 horsepower, a 10-hp boost, and 236 pound-feet of torque. VW promises improved fuel economy as well, but it hasn't announced specifically what amount yet. The company claims that despite the same displacement, only the bore spacing is shared with the previous version. The mill includes new features like exhaust gas recirculation, an intercooler integrated into the intake manifold and low-friction camshaft bearings.
VW Group of America has had great success with diesels in the US recently. Vee-Dub and Audi sold 105,899 diesel-equipped models in 2013. It was the first time the group ever sold over 100,000 diesels in a year, and they accounted for 24 percent of sales. Scroll down to read the full press release about the announcement.
