1957 Vw Karman Ghia (project Car) on 2040-cars

US $4,800.00
Year:1957 Mileage:90000 Color: looks to have one respray in black along with some body work
Location:

Madison, Wisconsin, United States

Madison, Wisconsin, United States

Details on the car. . .

- It is a California 1957 VW Ghia with a clean title.
- Matching numbers on Body and Pan.
- It looks like quite some time ago that the Original (LowLight) front end was changed out to a 60's style due to a fender bender. It is only the outer skin portion of the front clip as it retains all the 1957 metal inside the front trunk and the inner fender wells. The repair was welded all along the inside lip of where the front trunk seal lays.
- The nose is straight and clean  even from looking on the inside.
- The inner front and rear fender wells look to be in good shape.
- The car has all the glass (front, rear, rear quarters and door glass).
- There is some rust on the bottom of the front fenders, along the outer rocker skins and in the rear lower quarters (where the rear bumper wraps around to the sides).
- There is a small quarter size rust hole under the front hood by the gas tank passenger side.
- The heater channels and door sills appear to be solid all around. There is some surface rust but they are not soft in the least.
- The engine compartment metal is solid except for the passenger side battery tray, which is typical on all Ghia's at some point in their life.
- Doors are solid along with fully functional internal mechanisms.
- Has the Original uncut dash without gas gauge hole and radio blank off plate.
- Has the Original year correct steering wheel.
- All the interior color is in Original "Toucan Black" with a patina.
- It has the very early heater controls (1956), which is a knob on each side of the dash compared to the later 2 levers on the driver side (1957 and up).
- The car is fairly straight. There is a dent in the passenger rear quarter by the tail light and in the drivers front fender just behind and below the headlight.
- The engine and gearbox looks to be updated. It looks like a 40hp engine with a split-case gearbox. The engine spins and the gearbox does shift. I have paperwork from a previous owner that shows the engine being rebuilt in the mid to late 1980's (1986-1988). The last time is looks to be registered for the road is 1991 in California.
- The pans should be replaced or patched (rear pans for sure and some of the passenger front pan).
- Since it has been off the road for some time I'm sure all the mechanicals, linkages, brakes, suspension, etc. . . need to be gone over.
- Electrically it looks like the car is still 6 volts.

* Mileage listed in the Description above is not exact.

VW Chattanooga plant very close to UAW representation

Tue, 11 Nov 2014

After months of fighting from both sides, it looks like the Volkswagen factory in Chattanooga, TN, might unionize under the United Auto Workers after all. According to a letter acquired by The Associated Press, VW and the UAW reportedly struck a deal last spring where the union agreed to stop its challenge of the organization vote with the National Labor Relations Board to help clear the way for the CrossBlue to be produced in Tennessee. In exchange, the automaker would recognize the UAW at the plant. Leaders of the Local 42 at the facility reportedly signed the letter.
It seems that such an agreement would clear the way for the factory to unionize after months of dispute. According to The Detroit News, under Tennessee law, workers aren't required to join the organization. Although, that might not be a problem. As of a few months ago, Local 42 already claimed to have signed around 700 of the plant's roughly 1,500 workers.
Controversy has constantly swirled around the possible unionization at the Chattanooga plant. The UAW held its official decision in February and lost 712 to 626. However, there were allegations of intense political pressure to make sure the ballot failed. A later report also found that VW was offered $300 million in incentives well before the vote to make sure things progressed to the "satisfaction of the State of Tennessee," but the deal was later retracted. In July, the UAW opened Local 42 on the campus in hopes of signing up a majority of the workforce by volunteering to be a part of it.

VW, Suzuki mulling rekindling relationship in face of legal battle

Sat, 27 Jul 2013

Volkswagen and Suzuki have been undergoing marriage counseling in a bid to avoid finalizing their nasty divorce. The blissful union has been troubled for some time, with Volkswagen claiming that it could affect operational decisions at Suzuki, and the Japanese brand's sniping and constant flirting with a certain Italian temptress causing rifts.
The matter first went to court in 2012, when Suzuki demanded VW get out, and leave its 19.9-percent stake in the Japanese brand in a box to the left. Now, Automotive News is reporting that the company will give the relationship one last shot, according to closed-door dealings between the two in London.
Still, it's understood that VW and Suzuki recognize the benefit of their alliance, and that it'd be in the best interests of the kids both parties to make things work. Spokespeople declined to comment to AN, but the newsmagazine spoke with Frank Biller, an analyst for LBBW in Stuttgart, who said, "Both companies stand to benefit if they can overcome the disagreements over leadership claims."

2013 Volkswagen Beetle Turbo Convertible

Wed, 10 Apr 2013

Less Flower, More Power
Pardon our political incorrectness for a moment, but the Volkswagen New Beetle was, undeniably, a "chick car." There was almost nothing that the New Beetle offered to enthusiasts (of either gender), and by the end of its run, VW had even stripped all of the exciting engines from the car's lineup. Looking to resurrect some of the excitement behind the Beetle, the third generation of the iconic car ditched the cuteness when the coupe debuted for 2012, and now the 2013 Volkswagen Beetle Convertible aims to show how much fun drivers can have without a top.
Celebrating almost six and a half decades of the Beetle convertible, Volkswagen is offering a trio of distinct special editions that celebrate three of the car's most popular decades (the '50s, '60s and '70s), but as one of the unofficial cars of the 1960s, it would almost be a crime not to test this version, right? Besides, this is also the only special edition to get the turbocharged engine. While our first drive of the 2013 Beetle Convertible was in the fuel-miser TDI variation, our two-week romp in the 2013 Beetle Convertible '60s Edition came just as peak convertible weather was kicking off down in Florida.
