Detailed Description;
Pros for the car, this baby's a cruiser. Careful not to speed! It's easy to do in this thing. It's got a smooth running six-cylinder engine that practically glides along the highway. She just had new tires put on her, and just came back from the mechanic with all systems go. The car is in good condition with average wear. She runs well, with a slew of features for a comfortable ride. All of its features work like a charm, or at least the ones I'm aware of. The owners' manual went missing (sorry folks), so there's all kinds of bells and whistles I've never tapped into. There's a pull up shade for the rear window (if you can see it, it's up in the pics). The windshield wipers are automated and go faster or slower depending on the rainfall. The rearview mirror does this neat trick when its dark; it dims the oncoming headlights so they don't blind you while you drive. The climate control is a great feature, allowing for very precise heating and cooling. The air conditioner was repaired last month and blows icy cold. For the winter time there's heated seats. Everything in this car is powered, from rearranging the mirrors to your snazzy memory settings on the powered seats. Note the pretty blue and red light show on your dashboard when the headlights are turned on, as well as the lovely wood finishes. Your dashboard includes a little analog display that tells you how many miles you have left in your gas tank, as well as the miles you're getting to the gallon (average of about 26-28 MPG), and the ever-so-polite 'Please Refuel' message when the time comes. The back middle seat folds down into cup holders/table setting for the kiddies or your friends on those long road trips. The car is clean, with all of the carpets stain free and lookin' good accept for the little place beneath the accelerator. It just looks like stubborn dirt, so a good scrub would get it out. The car has a moon roof and very large trunk, which is also unscathed. I put the seats down to fit a bicycle in there no problem. Another interesting feature, it drives as an automatic, but has the option to shift manually. I could never get the hang of the manual drive because the car doesn't have a clutch, but it's there if you want to use it! The interior is fully functional with all the lights working, etc. See below for the things that are worn on the car.

The exterior paint has a few very minor scratches, the worst of which is on the left rear bumper and is a dark scuff mark about 4-inches long. There's a tiny ding on the passenger side door. Everything else was small enough that I had a hard time finding them again. The rest of the exterior checks out. Biggest cons of the car, there's some wear on the interior. In no way has it affected my enjoyment of the car, nor its overall appearance. I just want to present an honest listing. It's still a very comfortable ride and I recently scrubbed it to a shine, but the drivers' seat has a worn tear in it, and the passenger seat is worn and the leather has cracked. It's not ripped on the passenger side, just cracked. The back seats are in fine condition, and the luxury leather finishes are still in good shape. I noticed a very small (less than 1/4 inch) slit in the leather finish on the left rear door, and the wood finish is cracked a bit on the passenger side door. The window button on the drivers' side that operates the passenger window will roll the passenger window down but not up...to be clear, the window button on the passenger side works fine both ways. The cover for the bass knob on the stereo is missing (see pics), though it doesn't affect its function. The floor mat in the back seat on the right side used to be anchored down to a plastic disk, kind of like a really big button. It popped off somehow, and I never 'buttoned' it back on because it would take a little bit of force to do this. Lastly, the sealant (??? not sure what to call this. It seems to be a thin, clear coating that makes the plastic in the car appear satiny) has worn away where there was the most friction (around the drivers' side window buttons, the glove compartment, etc.).

Aaaaand, that's it. No cons to report otherwise. This car belonged to my dad, and he recently gave it to me after buying a new one. All of the bazillion options on it just really aren't my style. I have my heart set on an old 1989 convertible, and so I'm trying to get the cost of the car I want covered. My dad primarily used the Passat to drive to and from work for the past 10 years. He's a non-smoker. The car has never been in a single accident and the title is clear. He's been the only owner besides myself, and I just got the car two weeks ago. I wouldn't even be selling it if I didn't have my heart set on this old convertible I found.

So there you have it. I'm a private owner, and so the car is being sold as is. If you have any questions, please email me at cecemakarewicz@gmail.com, and I'll do my best to answer. I'll take inquires for people who are interested in buying the car outright, and if the price is right, I'll end the auction early. If you're in the St. Louis area, give me a buzz and you can come see the car for yourself! If you're far away and you need the car shipped, that's on you, my friends.

Happy bidding!

J.D. Power customer survey of dealers counts Cadillac, Buick as big winners

Mon, 14 Apr 2014

Cadillac and Buick have taken the trophies in J.D. Power's latest Customer Service Index Study examining satisfaction with dealer service. Surveying more than 90,000 owners and lessees of 2009-2013 model-year cars, the study found that those with pre-paid maintenance packages were ten percent more likely to buy their next car from the same brand.
Dealer satisfaction scores have improved overall, Cadillac nabbed the luxury segment ahead of Audi and Lexus, taking the crown that Lexus held last year. Buick keeps the mass-market dealer satisfaction win in the family, finishing ahead of Volkswagen and last year's winner GMC. The study also found that service department use of tablets increased customer satisfaction, as did "best practices" like "providing helpful advice." Who knew?
You can find details on those and more findings in the press release below.

Volkswagen drops "GTi" lawsuit against Suzuki

Tue, 02 Oct 2012

Way back in 2004, Volkswagen took umbrage with Suzuki being granted permission to use the nameplate "SWIFT GTi" for a performance variant of its small-car offering (2012 equivalent seen here). Now, eight years and surely some very steep legal bills later, VW has finally dropped its claim against Suzuki.
The General Court of the European Union stated, back in March of this year, that Suzuki's GTi registration could not be confused with VW's "Golf GTI." Volkswagen had appealed that ruling, though has now reportedly called off the dogs. In fact, Germany's Die Welt reports that the appeal has been dead for several weeks now.
This news comes amongst continued arbitration acrimony between the two automakers, all revolving around VW's forced divestiture of nearly 20-percent stake it purchased in Suzuki some two years ago.

Volkswagen Group names Paefgen head of classics program

Tue, 04 Oct 2011

You may remember the name Franz-Josef Paefgen. Until recently, the German engineer and executive was head of both Bentley and Bugatti. Before that he was chief executive of Audi, after working for several years at Ford. He technically "retired" earlier this year, but like the cars he helped create, an executive like Paefgen could never really retire. So it should come as little surprise that the Volkswagen Group has named Dr. Paefgen head of its Classic program.
In his new capacity, Paefgen will oversee the historic automobile activities of the entire VW Group, including those of Volkswagen, Seat, Skoda, Audi, Lamborghini, and of course Bentley and Bugatti. It strikes us as a suitable semi-retirement for the man responsible in no small part for the Bugatti Veyron and Bentley Mulsanne, to name just two, and who was decorated in 2006 by the ACO as the "Spirit of Le Mans" for his contribution to endurance racing. Read the official announcement after the break.
