Amazing 1982 Rabbit Convertible. Fully restored 1982 Volkswagen Rabbit, with extras, such as new top, new headliner and pad, tires, front and rear disc brakes, interior carpet, new fabric seats (not seat covers). Mechanical: It has been restored mechanically and electrically by Foreign Aid Albuquerque NM. The engine was replaced with a new Audi 2.O high compression motor costs $7500.00, along with a new transmission and clutch. New front suspension struts and new custom exhaust. Interior: The front and rear vinyl seats have been replaced with fabric seats (black tweed) The front and rear windows seals are new. The car was painted shortly after the engine/transmission rebuild and at that time I replaced the rubber molding around the fenders at paint time also, with original German rubber moldings. I also replaced the from and rear windows at paint time and the rubber seals around the front and rear windows. The new canvas top went on after the paint job was complete, along with a new head-liner, and pad inside the convertible top. The dash cluster was rebuilt and there are no cracks in the dash. I’ve replaced the factory stereo with a better new unit. The Factory A/C was disconnected due to the larger radiator installed for the motor. I replaced the original factory bumper assemblies for Euro bumpers for lighter weight. (will include the factory bumpers with the sale) Paint: It’s had one repaint and was stripped to bare metal before the factory color was re-applied with a clear coat. There is no rust on the vehicle anywhere ! Including the Dyno of the car to show its power. The Bad: · has a few road chips (its not a garage queen) · a golf ball hit the front valance one day, slight ding · A/C disconnected · Some of the plastic seat moldings are missing.

VW makes $9.2B offer for rest of truckmaker Scania

Sun, 23 Feb 2014

Volkswagen owns or has controlling interests in three commercial truck operations: besides its own, VW began buying shares in Sweden's Scania in 2000 and now controls 89.2 percent of its shares and 62.6 percent of its capital, then bought into Germany's Man in 2006 - in order to prevent Man from trying to take over Scania - and now owns 75 percent of it. The car company has managed to work out 200 million euros in savings, but believes it can unlock a total of 650 million euros in savings if it takes outright control of Scania and can spread more common parts among the three divisions.
It has proposed a 6.7-billion-euro ($9.2 billion) buyout, but according to a Bloomberg report, Scania's minority investors don't appear inclined to the deal. Although effectively controlled by VW, Scania is an independently-listed Swedish company, and a profitable one at that: in the January-September 2013 period its operating profit was 9.4 percent compared to Man's 0.4 percent. Some of the other shareholders believe that Scania is better off on its own and will not approve the deal, some have asked an auditor to look into the potential conflict of interest between VW and Man, while some are willing to examine the deal and "make an evaluation based on what a long-term owner finds is good," which might not be just "the stock market price plus a few percent." The buyout will only be official assuming VW can reach the 90-percent share threshold that Swedish law mandates for a squeeze-out.
Many of the arguments against boil down to investors believing that Scania's Swedishness and unique offerings are what keep it profitable, and ownership by the German car company will kill that. (Have we heard that somewhere before?) If Volkswagen can buy that additional 0.8-percent share in Scania, perhaps its buyout wrangling with Man will give it an idea of what it's in for: "dozens" of minority investors in the German truckmaker have filed cases against VW, seeking higher prices for their shares. It is likely only to delay the inevitable, though. If VW is really going to compete with Daimler and Volvo in the truck market, it has to get the size, clout and savings to do so.

VW investigating Golf water leak discovered by car magazine

Sat, 07 Sep 2013

Volkswagen is in a spat with German magazine Auto Bild over claims that its new, seventh-generation Golf may already need a recall. The German weekly reports that new Golfs can leak water into front-passenger footwells due to a faulty drainage tube in their air conditioning systems.
And while the fix itself doesn't sound too terrible, because Volkswagen bases so many cars off the same platform as the Golf, Auto Bild is claiming that 300,000 models could be affected, including the Audi A3 and Seat Leon. That's a very bold claim. For its part, VW is vehemently denying that number, according to Reuters, saying it's aware of the problem and claiming only 46 Golfs need fixing. In addition, it denies that any Audi or Seat models are affected by the issue.
Either way, regardless of how pervasive this leak issue is, North American buyers should rest easy knowing that the problems ought to get fixed by the time the Mk VII Golf finaly reaches our dealerships.

Touring the Volkswagen Museum in Wolfsburg

Mon, 23 Sep 2013

Forgive the ribbon up top - this isn't so much of a Read This as a Look At This. Ran When Parked took a tour of the sprawling Volkswagen Museum in Wolfsburg, and while there's a spot of text about the different and unique vehicles on display in the rotating exhibits, it's largely the collection of pictures of odd, one-off VW-badged cars and vans that excites. If you're a fan of the weird and wild, this is a post you'll want to look at.
As RWP points out, this is the larger, but less busy, museum targeted purely at Volkswagen products. The smaller AutoStadt museum, meanwhile, covers a much broader swath, with products from other Volkswagen Group members.
