1983 Volvo 240 Diesel - Very Rare - Restoration Project - 244, 245, 300td, 240d on 2040-cars
Blue Lake, California, United States
I was transferred on my job, and had to give up my shop...so I'm going to sell my diesel 240. It's been stored and worked on inside until recently. This is a rare Volvo 240 with an original diesel engine. It's had a lot of work completed on it, and a lot of money spent doing it right. The body's in great condition, and just needs to be prep'd and painted. The interior is in really great shape also, but I was going to do a complete interior change out, and at the same time install a cutting edge stereo system, and speakers. I was going to also install a turbo to give the car that extra zip. Even though the tires still have some life left on them, I was going to put some new tires on it also. I restored one of these 240 (non-diesel) and drove it for over 5 years without any problems at all...just gas, oil, and tires...(sold it before transferring). I'm actually on the opposite side of the country now, and driving a Volvo 240. I buy these cars because they have a great, solid, safe, ride...and when driving these cars you sit up off the floor, unlike a lot of cars that has the driver almost level with the floor.... and the safety records of these cars is legendary. Please don't get me wrong. I own a SUV & a truck...but when I drive to work, grocery store, flea market, etc...I drive my trusty Volvo. And, I should point out that if I'm going somewhere that I need to leave something of value in the car, or park it for extended periods.., Christmas shopping, Cloth Shopping, etc., or parked at the Airport for extended time, the Volvo 240 is a must. In the 25 years I've owned one of these cars, not once has anyone broke into one, or damaged one in any way. My 240 is also my loaner car for my daughters, nephews, etc...when they visit. In other words, if you start out by making one of these cars really nice, and keeping it that way...there isn't a better car to have as a budget primary or backup car (IMO)....and there really is a reason these were one of the top mother cars ever made. There's a lot of room in these cars, and extremely easy in & out. And speaking of a top picks, these cars (Volvo 240) were voted one of the top 10 best cars ever made...and I strongly agree with that!!! As to the diesel engine that Volvo put in these cars: Some don't like them, and some love them... - There are 2 main reason why someone would not like these engines: 1) Because they are the ones that have to work on them. 2) The owner/driver doesn't do the easy/basic maintenance on it, and has problems with it....( then it's back to (1) the person that has to work on it, and in most cases because the basic maintenance isn't done by the owner/driver). - Those that really like them: They get really good fuel mileage, they are cheap to maintain (no plugs, plug wires, etc..), and they will last for hundreds of thousands of miles without any major work. Ok, so the work that's been done to get this 240 ready for it's owner to cruise for several hundreds of thousands of miles without issues:
* Of course there's a lot of the smaller mechanical support items that I haven't listed...but they were rebuilt or replaced. Center caps for the rims are in the car. Sorry, but I don't have better pictures. As I said, I'm on the opposite coast from the car. The car is located in Blue Lake California, and will come with a clear Oregon title.

Volvo teases mysterious new small crossover
Thu, 16 May 2013The image you see above is just about all we know of the new Volvo crossover that will be revealed at 8:30 pm Central European Time on May 17 (2:30 pm Eastern Standard Time). Volvo released three very short video teasers, all with the tagline "Leave The World Behind," all of which feature a member of the now-defunct band Swedish House Mafia - Axwell sits in a boat in the first, Sebastian Ingrosso walks toward cabin in the second and Steve Angello stares at the sea in a third.
A microsite, www.leavetheworldbehind.com, accompanies the teasers and it's been said that a short film by Lune will feature the band - Swedish Mafia had a hit in 2009 with the song Leave the World Behind. As for the vehicle, theories are that it could be something between the V40 Cross Country and XC60, the new XC90 or something else entirely. We don't have long to wait, and you can watch both teasers below.
Volvo studying test of electric roads in Sweden
Tue, 27 May 2014Volvo already announced the results of a study of wireless charging using a stationary C30, and now it's embarking on a more ambitious study of wireless charging involving moving city buses. Next year, in conjunction with the Swedish Transport Association, Volvo will build a section of electric road up to 500 meters long that would use inductive charging to refill the batteries while the bus drives over it.
Right now, the company's Hyper Bus diesel hybrid has to stop to plug in and charge at the end of its route. The company is looking for a way to keep buses in service while being able to run on electric power for greater lengths of time. The new line used for the study will be called ElectriCity, and will come online in central Gothenburg sometime in 2015. There's a press release below with more information.
Volvo S60 Polestar Concept looking Smurfy in Jay Leno's Garage
Tue, 22 Jan 2013Is it just us, or has Jay Leno's Garage evolved from an intimate, off-the-cuff video series designed to show off the late-night comedian's automobile collection into something a lot more ambitious and... mainstream? This isn't a complaint, exactly, as Leno has been putting out engaging videos at an increasingly furious pace. However, we can't help but note that the subjects have largely graduated from the funnyman's steam-powered eccentricities and forgotten classics to lots of new production and concept cars, often with automaker execs in tow. It's almost as if the series is turning into an internet version of his NBC talk show, one where bigwigs swing by to show off their latest projects as part of their publicity tours, only instead of new movies and albums, it's cars or the occasional motorcycle.
Such is the exactly case with Volvo's stonking S60 Polestar Concept, which makes its appearance in Jay's warehouse of wonders this week. Tuned by in-house skunkworks Polestar, the "Swedish Racing Blue" S60 has certainly been making the rounds as of late, with recent appearances near Leno's garage at the LA Auto Show and an Auto Motor und Sport track faceoff against the BMW M3 and Audi RS4 Avant.
Perhaps we shouldn't be surprised that Volvo is so keen to get its showcar in front of the cameras - last we heard, executives were seriously considering a small production run for their unlikely 508-horsepower, all-wheel drive sport sedan, though we continue to hear that realistic pricing is likely to be a roadblock.
