This car has been run daily since my car needs changed one month ago. My Volvo runs well and can be driven to your home, or shipped by you if you're located far away.

I purchased this car on Ebay in late 2009 due to its low milage (then 99,000). It was my second 1992 Volvo 240, and I have not been disappointed. This car was originally from the Philadelphia area, but came to me from Colorado and now is in Maryland.

Extras include black alloy wheels with the Volvo logo. Custom mats with the number "240" stitched on them. Outfitted for bluetooth hookup (something I never used--I'm not a tekkie) and an uprated radio. Tinted windows. This Volvo is a head-turner.

Regular oil changes have been made since my ownership, with Mobil One synthetic oil. A major maintenance was performed in March 2013. All repair and oil change records since late 2009 come with purchase of the vehicle. New wipers and oil change 7/2013. Valid Maryland Emissions test until February, 2014.

There are some 'dings' typical for the age of the car. Three on the drivers side, two on the trunk lid; one long (+/- 4 feet) rub on the right side doors, a tiny blob of cement (1/4") is on the front hood from bridge road construction.

The car could use a new factory black front grill (about $100. on Ebay when I last checked). Prior owner spray painted a chrome grill matte black and it has chipped from road use.

I anticipate that it will need new brakes within the next six months (typical for 240's), otherwise terrific. No known issues.

Of course there is no warranty (it is 21 years old after all).

Scratch that new crossover, Volvo teases ad campaign for XC60

Sun, 26 May 2013

If we were to paraphrase the opening lines of Kenneth Graeme's Wind in the Willows for our own purposes, we'd write, "Have you heard about Volvo? They never planned a new crossover at all. It was all a horrid low trick of theirs...." To be fair, though, we can't blame them for our own presumption. When the Swedish car company created a site called LeaveTheWorldBehind.com and teased a couple of videos for some kind of collaboration with Swedish House Mafia, we thought the crossover in one of the teasers pointed to a new vehicle on the way.
Turns out that's not the case. It really is 'just' a collaboration with the band on a music video for Swedish artist Lune's cover of their 2009 song, Leave the World Behind.
But there are Volvos in it, and you can watch it below and hear original song alongside. We've also included the press release with more details on why it all came together, and a behind-the-scenes video on the collabo. To paraphrase Forrest Gump, "That's all we have to say about that."

Volvo still undecided on offering plug-in hybrid versions of all models

Thu, 03 Jul 2014

The automotive world is only a few months away from getting its first real glimpse at Volvo's big gamble with the unveiling of the next-generation XC90 (pictured above as the Concept XC Coupe). We're already getting a preview of the revolutionary upgrades with the introduction of the Swede's Volvo Engine Architecture family into some of its 2015 models, like the recently driven S60. These changes are just the start, though. The real magic could be in the powertrains.
Dean Shaw, Volvo Cars North America vice president of corporate communications hinted to Autoblog a few months ago that every model sold in the US could come in a plug-in hybrid variant, starting with the new XC90. Despite confirmation rumors that this has now come to pass, Shaw told AutoblogGreen that the only thing Volvo is confirming right now is that the platform is capable of that. "We haven't confirmed that all US Volvos would be available with PHEV," he said.
Shaw did confirm that that XC90 will come with a gas and plug-in hybrid powertrain that offers "around 400 horsepower." According to Plugin Cars, the new XC90 will be unveiled in August and will make its public debut at an as-yet-unnamed auto show in the fall. Also, sometime during the 2016 model year, a plug-in hybrid variant will be added to its lineup.

New Volvo ad remembers the joy of rear-facing jump seats

Mon, 19 May 2014

With the rise in popularity of first the minivan and later the crossover as the default family vehicle, there have been about 20 years of children who have missed out on the joy of rear-facing jump seats in station wagons. It means kids today don't know the pleasure to be found in making faces or lewd gestures at other drivers while their parents can't see. Plus, they don't know the slightly nauseous feeling of watching the world pass by in reverse. However, a group of filmmakers look back with nostalgia at this increasingly uncommon automotive feature in a new ad for the 2015 Volvo V60.
As part of its sponsorship of the National Film Festival for Talented Youth, Volvo commissions a team each year to create an advertisement to be shown during the festival. This year's shows how the company's buyers have gone from riding in the back to driving the brand's cars. Scroll down to check out the charming ad, along with some wistful looks at classic Volvo wagons, before the jump seat is forgotten.
