Up for your consideration is a 1972 Buick Skylark Custom. This nice looking Skylark belongs to a friend of mine who buys a lot off E-bay but he has never sold anything, so he asked me if I would. He is the second owner of the vehicle, he bought it over a year ago from one of the original family members who bought it new here in Atlanta in 1972, he has the paperwork to prove that. He began the process of restoring it while he drove it. It has a new top with a glass rear window, new carpet, and a fresh paint job. This is the original color, Sunburst Yellow, but my friend decided to have real metal flake put in the paint so that it sparkles in the sun. I tried to take some pictures up close so you could see the metal flake. This is an all original car except, from what my friend was told by the original owner,  they had replaced the original motor with a '72 350 motor from another Skylark that had lower mileage. The car starts and seems to run fine after it warms up. There is no smoke or clatter or any engine noise. I took it out for a cruise yesterday and it seemed to run fine. It would hesitate a couple of times on acceleration but would clear up after about 30-40 MPH and ran fine. All the windows worked  fine a week ago, but when I came back home from my cruise yesterday, the front passenger window did not go up, probably a switch and I will do my best to get it checked out this week. The only other issue that I have found with the car is that one of the brakes seems to grab harder than the other. If you hit the brakes quickly it wants to pull to the right but all the brakes are working. My guess is that there is a caliper sticking, having not been driven much in recent months. This is a southern car, so rust is not an issue, the doors are solids, the quarter panels are solid. I took everything out of the trunk so that you could hopefully see that the trunk floor pans are solid. There are some small pinholes in the trunk pans but this is where water had gotten into the trunk, nothing serious. The electric top works fine and closes securely. The interior is in good shape as you can see from the pictures. It is missing the passenger side sun visor, but an easy fix, it is also missing the belt on the air conditioner but is otherwise intact. This is a great looking convertible that you could drive while you finish the restoration. My friends situation has changed and needs to sell this car and is putting a reasonable reserve on it so that it will sell. Because of the age of the car, it is being sold "as is" with no warranty implied or stated. If you need the car shipped, I will be glad to deliver it to the shipper if you make the arrangements and the car is paid for. Please ask all your questions before bidding and please only bid if you intent to purchase the car. I will do my best to respond to your questions as quickly as I can. There is a $500 non-refundable deposit to be paid within 48 hours of the auction end and you can contact me in regards to the balance. Thanks for your interest and have a great day.

eBay Find Of The Day: 1946 Tucker Torpedo Prototype II hides a secret Riviera

Thu, 10 Jul 2014

The Tucker Torpedo is one of the great what-if stories of automotive history. Preston Tucker hoped to revolutionize the industry with a car unlike any other on the road at the time. However, due to a variety of problems, he only managed build 51 vehicles before closing shop. Over time, they have become highly sought-after; In 2012, one sold for $2.65 million at auction.
That brings us to this Tucker "replica" that you see above because it might be one of the ugliest monstrosities ever put together. However, we might extend some leniency to the creator, as the vehicle isn't actually trying to replicate the classic look of the 1948 Tucker Torpedo. Instead, it is attempting to reproduce an earlier prototype from 1946 that actually features that weird, trident nose. According to the seller, his uncle built the car as a labor of love and supposedly used actual plans from Tucker as inspiration.
Underneath all of the crazy changes is a 1971 Buick Riviera powered by a 455-cubic-inch (7.5-liter) Buick V8. Some of the replica's odder modifications include the front fenders that turn with the wheels and the fin running down the back. All three headlights work, but the one in the middle is only for the high beams. Oddly, the small hinged sections on the roof are meant to open to avoid hitting your head when getting in or out. Maybe the seller's uncle was a very tall guy?

Buick Riviera Concept debuts in China

Fri, 19 Apr 2013

It's nighttime in China, and Buick has just concluded an evening event the day before the first - and only - press day of the Shanghai Motor Show. The star of this evening's party was the Buick Riviera concept vehicle, a plug-in electric hybrid coupe that the automaker says gives a glimpse at its future design direction, not to mention resurrecting some nomenclature from the brand's history that includes a similarly named concept from 2007.
The shape of the Riviera is said to be inspired by water. While the traditional Buick "waterfall" grille is present, the front end gains a more aggressive note thanks to what appear to be vertical air inlets below each headlight.
As for the concept's drivetrain, Buick says it uses General Motors' new dual-mode wireless plug-in hybrid electric vehicle propulsion system, or W-PHEV for short. The keyword there is 'wireless,' as the Riviera can charge its onboard battery packs with a traditional cable or wirelessly via a "sensory recharge panel" underneath the car.

Buick Regal GS and troupe of basketball dribblers make great beats

Wed, 02 Apr 2014

The 166 videos posted by YouTube music video maestro Kurt Hugo Schneider have been watched almost half a billion times. When Coke wanted to do something musically inclined and a little different, it called KHS, and the result was the video Little Talks.
Buick appears to be the next blue chip in line, and KHS' melodic celebration of the 259-horsepower Regal GS is called Epic Basketball + Car Beat. In it, a red Regal sits at center court in Venice Beach, California while a cast of ridiculous dribblers make music with and around the sedan.
We'll let the music speak for itself, which it does quite well in the video below.
