Selling my 1968 Chevrolet Caprice. Rebuilt 396 with a Comp Cams 280h, domed pistons and 049 open chamber heads. Rebuilt th400 transmission. Holley 770 carburetor. Has an original corvette open element air cleaner and new chrome gm style valve covers with oil drippers. Headman headers and new dual exhaust with v - force mufflers. Runs great and sounds even better. The cam sounds great. Has a newer replacement 4 core radiator and has the correct original big block fan shroud as well as the correct big block power steering and alternator. Car has a new vinyl top, headliner, carpet and package tray. The front bucket seats were redone with new reproduction covers and foam. The rear seat is original. The front and rear glass were removed and resealed and the top of the dash was also repainted. The console is in very nice condition. The deluxe Seatbelts were cleaned and a nice front set were put together. The rear belts are in the car but some of the buckle hardware needs some attn. Car has brand new 20" boss 338 wheels. 9" in the front and 10" in the back and nice new tires. Suspension is stock with cut coil springs and lowered shocks so could be returned to stock height easily. Brakes work great and all the turn signals, brake lights, reverse lights and marker lights work. I don't have any front door panels but do have the other rear panel but it is in poor condition. The dash is overall pretty nice but the pad does have a crack in it. I reset the odometer to zero when I put the car together and it now reads approximately 200 miles. Car does have the usual light rust in the quarters which I posted in the pictures. The body mounts in the trunk are also in need of some help, also pictured. This car overall is a great car with some cool options and awesome patina. Is a great cruiser that gets tons of attention and has all the hard expensive work done. Steve McQueen's last movie car, now Pawn Stars-owned, up for auction [w/video]

Sun, 03 Feb 2013

The last car Steve McQueen ever drove in a movie is officially up for auction. The 1951 Chevrolet Styline DeLuxe Convertible you see above is now owned by none other than Rick Harrison of Pawn Stars fame, but once ferried McQueen around the set of his last film, 1980's The Hunter. That flick saw the Bullit star play a bumbling bounty hunter and didn't exactly set the box office on fire. McQueen bought the car after production wrapped, and four years later it sold at his estate sale at the Imperial Palace in Las Vegas.
Flash forward to 2003, and the convertible received a full restoration back to near-stock specifications. Hagerty Insurance estimates the car to be worth around $45,000 without the significant providence. Given its ties to one of film's most popular gearheads, the old Chevrolet could fetch up to 10 times that when it goes under the gavel in Ft Luaderdale, Florida on March 22. You can head over to the Auctions America site for more information. You can also check out the trailer for The Hunter below.

Chevy gets cracking on Cruze EV fleet testing

Chevrolet Cruze EV - Click above for high-res image gallery
The Chevrolet Volt hasn't yet gone on sale, but General Motors is looking at ways of expanding its electric vehicle lineup. Chevy, along with partner LG, is employing a group of all-electric cars in the form of the Cruze. The sedans are part of a demonstration fleet which is located in Seoul, South Korea and is being used to provide data in an electric vehicle research project. The goal is to gather information on driving patterns and charging behavior in addition to consumer acceptance.
The Cruze EVs, along with some Daewoo Lacetti Premieres EVs, are the first fleet of full-size electric vehicles and should provide invaluable information for The General. Staying full-size means not sacrificing cargo space, so the battery pack is mounted to the underbody, leaving the trunk area open for plenty recyclable, canvas grocery bags.

Silverado HD, Touareg V10 TDI face off in diesel tug-of-war

Sun, 30 Dec 2012

A couple weeks ago, we watched a Chevrolet Silverado get dominated by a Dodge Ram Heavy Duty in a fullsize pickup tug-of-war, but in that truck's defense, Chevy's Vortec gas engine was no match for the torquey Cummins turbo diesel. For our next round of vehicular tug-of-war, a Duramax-powered Silverado HD takes on Volkswagen Touareg V10 TDI.
Now, on paper, putting the Duramax V8's 365 horsepower and 660 pound-feet of torque up against the V10's 310 hp and 553 lb-ft looks like an easy win for the Bowtie, but unfortunately, this battle has a similar result as the Dodge versus Chevy video, with the Silverado smoking its tires trying to move forward as it gets pulled backwards. Put another way: YouTube 2, Chevy Silverado 0.
It just goes to show, though, that big tires, bolt-on fender flares and goofy smoke stacks don't improve your towing abilities. Besides, what did the Silverado driver expect when the Touareg V10 TDI has towed a Boeing 747 in the past?
