Beautiful 1978 Champagne Gold Monte Carlo. Great sound and powerful engine.  A bad-ass 78 Monte Carlo (yeah,amazing!) 3 stage exterior paint. New radiator. New dashboard metrics. New CD stereo. New interior upholstery. Custom steering wheel. True spokes wire wheels. Tires 225x40x18. Has AC, not hooked up.  Alarm.  Wa tags/ title.  Mileage is an estimate due to newer dashboard metrics.  Engine specs: rebuilt 350 6/ 2014, new crank shaft, block bore 030" oversize, RVI Torquer Cam, Roller Rocker, Holley High Rise intake, Holley carburetor 650, powder-coated headers. 118,000 miles is an estimate.  Paint job has a few blemishes, but is a 7.5 out of 10.  No rust.  Underside is in great shape.  Missing some trim on sides, but some say it looks better without.  Drives great. A real looker.

If this was a 1970 or even 1975 in this shape, the price would be much higher.  I think we all know that. You wish it was a 1970, I wish it was a 1970, my friend does, and about 500 classic car enthusiasts wish it was too.  But it isn't.  What you get is a very solid, cool, unique car at a great price.  My friend ended up putting too much money into a car he thought he could take to California, but the emissions standards there are not kind to post 1975 cars.  This is a very fair price and the car is sold AS IS.  I am selling locally in Portland, OR and reserve the right to end this auction at any time if it is sold locally.

Chevy might've pulled out of NASCAR if it weren't for new Gen 6 car

Wed, 20 Feb 2013

We've been on the fence with NASCAR for some time now. On one hand, it's some of the closest racing anywhere in motorsports, with actual passing and door-handle-to-door-handle action as a matter of course. But on the other, it's become template racing - a personality-driven sport more about the drivers than any sort of loyalty to a particular automaker. The Car Of Tomorrow format really rammed that message home, with a racecar's identity coming down to little more than headlamp stickers slapped on the nose. That's not necessarily a bad thing in and of itself, but we've wondered for some time what's in it for the automakers, who pay big money to stay in a series that has had little increasingly little do with street car sales, let alone innovation.
Apparently General Motors was beginning to wonder the same thing. In a new ESPN report, Rick Hendrick, team owner of Hendrick Motorsports, suggests that GM would have seriously considered leaving NASCAR if it wasn't for the move away from the COT to the new Gen 6 racer. According to Hendrick, GM North America boss Mark Reuss spearheaded the charge away from the 2007 COT and toward a racecar with clearer automaker ties - cars like the new Chevrolet SS racer shown above. Learn more about the fight for a closer-to-production look in the ESPN story at the link.
Now, if we could just get more rear-wheel drive V8 coupes into showrooms....

GM throttles back Chevy Malibu, Buick LaCrosse production over swollen inventories

Wed, 06 Feb 2013

As inventory of the Chevrolet Malibu and Buick LaCrosse continues to pile up, General Motors will be idling its Fairfax Assembly Plant for two weeks, according to Automotive News. This move comes about a month after the plant was shut down for three weeks in late December and early January for the same reason. As of January 31, the GM had a 94-day supply of Malibu stock while the LaCrosse was a little worse with a 117-day supply.
Just last week, GM announced that it would be investing $600 million in upgrading this plant, but it's unclear what future plans the company has in store for Fairfax considering slow sales of both the plant's models. We do expect a refreshed and more luxurious LaCrosse shortly and an early design update for the Malibu to be announced at some point this year, although we have had no official word as to when either will happen.

Fewer than 1 in 3 Chevy dealers earn right to initially sell C7 Corvette

Mon, 01 Apr 2013

Looking to make the launch of the 2014 Corvette Stingray as efficient as possible, Chevrolet will be limiting the numbers of its dealers that can sell the all-new coupe and convertible. According to Automotive News, sales of the C7 Corvette will initially be limited to less than a third of Chevy's total dealership network when the 'Vette goes on sale this summer.
Only 900 dealers out of more than 3,000 locations nationwide will be allowed to sell the new Corvette at first, and the reason for this is so that there are no shortages at dealers that can actually get the cars sold. The article says that the 900 dealerships chosen represented 80 percent of total Corvette sales in 2012.
Some of the requirements dealers had to make to get initial allocation of Stingray sales include having sold at least four Corvettes in 2012 and having a Corvette Stingray specialist who will be required to have gone through a training session costing more than $2,000 per attendee. Once demand for the 2014 Corvette Stingray begins to subside - approximately six to nine months after it goes on sale - then allocation could open up to more dealers, but the report indicates this could happen following the 2014 model year.
