Chevrolet Blazer Cst 4x4 on 2040-cars

Year:1971 Mileage:74897

Grand Junction, Colorado, United States

I bought this truck last year with the intention of turning it into a restomod with new running gear and updates, but the guy that builds my custom vehicles talked me out of using this Blazer because it is in such good condition, and very original.  It would have been a shame to cut it up.  In addition to being a factory A/C Blazer, it also has a rare working factory tachometer in the center of the gauge cluster.   We purchased a different Blazer for my project that is almost complete, and I now need to make room in the garage.  The previous owner had rebuilt the brakes, installed new 33" Toyo MT tires, partially installed a Painless Wiring Harness, had headers and new exhaust installed, and repainted the body.  There was no rust as this was an Arizona vehicle, and I have photos to document the integrity and straightness of the body before paint.  The underside of the tub was painted with POR15 to keep the body rust free.  A larger gas tank is installed that looks like a Hickey product to me.  Im not sure of the capacity.

Since I cant help myself, even though I knew I wouldn't be keeping this Blazer, we went ahead and took care of anything that would affect the reliability of the truck, as well as cleaning up the cosmetics.  The wiring was completed, and we addressed the sloppiness in the steering.  The motor fires up right away everytime, and everything works great.  I wouldn't hesitate to drive this truck anywhere.  When I purchased this truck we filled the bed with extra parts, both original and aftermarket that will come with this Blazer.

This Blazer is in great condition for a driver, but it nowhere near a show truck.  I will try to list every deficiency that I can in order to present this vehicle in the truest light possible.

- The paint is pretty and shiny, but it is what can be referred to as a 10 foot paint job.  It looks great from 10 feet away, but any closer and you can see the deformities that are present including small rock chips, small scratches, and crazing where holes were filled in.  Perfect paint for a driver quality vehicle because it looks nice, but your eyes don't tear up if you get a scratch on it.

-The grille surround could use a polishing, and there is small dent in the lower corner.

-The front bumper is pushed up slightly on the passenger side.

-The A/C compressor and related parts were sold by the previous owner.

-New fuel filler doors were installed in the body before paint, but the filler neck has not been attached to the new door.

-The fuel gauge works but it is rotated slightly to the right, so the reading is not accurate.

-The only leak is the transfer case.  I have the gasket kit, but I never got around to installing it.

-The blazer comes with a double wall hard top in decent condition.  The hatch needs to be repaired where one hinge attaches, and the coating put on by the previous owner should be stripped and repainted.  All hardware is there and it would be an easy fix.

That is all I can come up with that needs attention, this really is a solid truck.  If I find anything else I will add to the listing.

GM recalls Chevy Express, GMC Savana over rollaway concern

Mon, 21 Jan 2013

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has issued a recall notice for a small number of General Motors fullsize vans due to possible rollaway concerns. On certain 2013 Chevrolet Express and 2013 GMC Savana models, it is possible to remove the key from the ignition without the shifter being in park.
Only 980 total units are being affected by this recall, and GM is fixing the issue by replacing the ignition cylinder and associated keys. Affected Chevy vans were built during most of November and December while its GMC counterpart was only built for a week in November. The recall goes into effect on January 23, and to find out if your vehicle applies to the recall, the GM and NHTSA contact numbers can be found on the official recall notice, which is posted below.

800k car names trademarked globally, suddenly alphanumerics seem reasonable

Tue, 01 Oct 2013

What's in a name? This cliched phrase probably gets tossed out at every marketing meeting that happens when a new car gets its nomenclature. We know the answer, though: everything. The name of a car has all the potential to make or break it with fickle customers that are more conscious than ever about what their purchases say about them.
That's giving headaches to marketing folks across the automotive industry. "It's tough. In 1985 there were about 75,000 names trademarked in the automotive space. Today there are 800,000," Chevrolet's head of marketing, Russ Clark, told Automotive News. Infiniti's president, Johan de Nysschen, echoed Clark's sentiment, saying, "The truth of the matter is, across the world, there is hardly a name or a letter that hasn't already been claimed by one car manufacturer or another. You can go through the alphabet - A, B, C and so forth - and you will quickly see that almost all available letters are taken."
What has that left automakers to do? Get creative. In the case of Infiniti, it made the controversial move to bring all of its cars' names into a new scheme, classifying them as Q#0 for cars and QX#0 for SUVs and crossovers. So the Infiniti G, which was available as the G25 and G37, is now the Q50. The FX37 and FX50 are now the QX70.

Chevrolet donates 300 vehicles damaged by Sandy to help train first responders

Thu, 28 Feb 2013

Super Storm Sandy took out a lot of automobiles in its path of destruction through the Northeast last October. The number surpassed 250,000 at last count, and a few of those were owned by Chevrolet - cars either sitting on dealership lots or waiting at port to be shipped off. Rendered unsellable by the water damage inflicted by Sandy, these vehicles were facing the crusher. But Chevy didn't send them there.
Instead, Chevy had a better idea: It will be donating 300 of these vehicles damaged by Sandy to help train first responders at Guardian Centers in Perry, GA. Chevy is the official automotive partner of Guardian Centers, which is an 830-acre facility that trains first responders in disaster preparedness. Junked cars are practically a consumable commodity there, where a full-size cityscape simulator gives trainees an entire urban center in which to train for all sorts of rescue operations and disaster scenarios.
Chevy says its particular vehicles will be used "in conjunction with role players for wide area searches, traffic congestion in emergency situations, counter terrorism, public order and mass casualty exercises." While grim scenarios all, we're certainly glad there are people out there preparing for the unexpected. While a zombie apocalypse isn't officially on the list of potential disasters to prepare for, when the virus hits, we'll be hot-footing it to Perry, GA to hang with these guys and gals.
