Total Frame off restoration. '73 Nova front subframe with power disc brakes and power steering, all rebuilt. Truck is lowered about 5 inches all around and rides and drives very good. Everything has been replace on this truck: reconditioned American Racing "Daisies" wheels and new tires all around. Complete boxed frame plus extensive rust preventive treatment throughout chassis. Truck drives and handles very nicely. It has a 300 hp 327 ci engine taken from a 1965 Chevy Impala with only 56K original miles on it. I put an additional about 3k miles  myself on it. It is a joy to drive. It has a late'90s 5speed pickup truck manual transmission that works flawlessly and fits the trucks character perfectly. It has Magnaflow stainless steel mufflers on it along with a complete new dual exhaust system. The wiring has been completely replaced with an "easy wiring" wiring harness. The 4 gage instrument set are Autometer with the speedometer bein a very close matching electronic programmable model all on a new billet custom dash panal. It has a modern GM tilt steering column along with a new Grant Mahagany wheel. All chrome on the vehicle except the center grill section is new from Brother's Trucks. The bed has been done in treated pine 5/4" decking planks routed to fit the stainless strips, but before assembly the were coated with a deck restoration product you can get at Lows, it's called RESTORE. It can be mixed in ANY color, is easy to roll on and is the best wearing bed liner material I have ever saw. Plus if it did somehow get discolored just roll on a new coat.

The truck has new carpet and newly recovered door panels. It has a new headliner in it. It has all new rubber seals and wheatherstripping. I did not put a heat/air system in it. I meant to, just didn't get to it. The seats are out of a late 90's Chevy car, I think a lumina or something like that. But they fit the truck perfectly and are sooo comfortable. The truck has all new glass, tinted grey in back and on the sides, clear with green upper boarder on the windshield

This truck is a joy to drive and gets more thumbs up and approval than any car I've every had (and that has been quite a few).

Vert-A-Pac train cars kept your Chevy Vega's price in check

Fri, 01 Mar 2013

Our apologies to those who've seen this before, but for the rest of the class, how awesome are these pictures of the Vert-A-Pac shipping system General Motors came up with to ship the Chevrolet Vega back in the 1970s? Developed along with Southern Pacific Railroad, GM was able to double the amount of Vega models it could ship by packing them into the unique storage cars vertically.
At the time, rail cars could fit 15 vehicles each, but Chevrolet was able to lower shipping costs by making it possible to ship 30 Vegas per rail car, in turn allowing the price of the Vega to remain as low as possible. Each rail car had 30 doors that would fold down so that a Vega could be strapped on, and then a forklift would come along and lift the door into place. All the cars were positioned nose down, and since they were shipped with all of their required fluids, certain aspects had to be designed specifically for this type of shipping, including an oil baffle in the engine, a special battery and even a repositioned windshield washer reservoir. See for yourself in our image gallery above.

GM dealers unhappy about pickup prices

Mon, 21 Oct 2013

The backlash is beginning. Following General Motors' price hike of the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra last week, dealers across the country are expressing their ire over increasing prices in the face of rebates and discounts on trucks from Ford and Ram.
Speaking to Automotive News, Sam Pilato, the general manager at Dimmitt Chevrolet in Clearwater, FL, Silverados are "selling very poorly." W. Carrol Smith, the president of Monument Chevrolet in the heart of truck country, Texas, said, "[GM's] position is that the vehicle stands on its own and it doesn't need a bigger rebate. That's not what the market is telling us."
According to AN, that's the general attitude amongst Chevy and GMC dealers across the country, where the twin pickups are getting butchered in sales by competitors offering up to $9,000 off their sticker prices. Part of the problem for GM is that its trucks are arriving on the market near the end of the current F-150's lifecycle, a fact that Ford has taken advantage of.
