This is a truck I bought last spring to take on as project to restore.  Due to health issues and retirement. I'm letting her go. When I bought this truck I felt like it had to be a pro to type of the electric cars. I still think I'm right. I've had people on line tell me that it was most likely a conversation car. If it was it would have had the clutch and transmission mounts visible what I have read is that in 1994 there were 50 vehicles some S 10's some Rangers and one other type of vehicle taken straight off the assembly line and take over to Hughs Aircraft company where the made them with the Electric dolphin electric motors and battery packs installed.  They were all leased to electric companies and Universities. These were done under leases in most cases. (In 1978-79 Chevrolet Started the evo sales what Ive read is only about 60 cars were sold. The rest was put into lease programs and leased to mainly electric companies with what GM called a dead end program. Which meant the were taken back at the end of the leases and distroryed so GM wouldn't have to supply parts for these vehicles.) What I do know about this truck was it was sold to and Electric company and then was given to the University of Oklahoma.  I do know that a lot of the 78 and 79's were leased to Universities to test. See how many miles on a recharge and basic testing like speed. Every trip was recorded. This truck has a true 5255 miles on it. The spare tire still has the knobbies on it. After testing the truck has just been setting at OU until they decided to sell it, after all these years. I feel like it should be in a museum. It has a 220 volt charging port in the front grill and a 110 volt under gas tank door.  There are no batteries which the try for them is under the bed. I also don't have the chargers for it.  It really wouldn't matter the original battery were lead acid and the newer batteries are more power and longer charge.  Which will take a different charger. I hope someone wants this truck, to keep it for what it was meant to be. I have this truck on other sites, and up for sale locally. I reserve the right to stop the auction at any time. If it makes the low reserve I have on it. I will let it sell on ebay. I've been burned on here by people wasting my time after getting the winning bid.  I hope we don't play that game again.  I will answer any and all questions about the vehicle. Thanks for looking and good luck!

Chevy SS prototype spotted wearing Pontiac G8 clothes

Tue, 28 Aug 2012

Do not adjust your computer screen, you are not seeing the rebirth of the Pontiac brand. General Motors has chosen to use a G8 to disguise a test mule for the latest prototype of the forthcoming Chevrolet SS. The G8 was closely related to the Holden Commodore and Vauxhall VXR, the platform upon which the new Chevrolet performance model will be based. It should come as little surprise, then, that GM has opted to use the cladding from the former G8.
Thought the front clip of this mule is pure Pontiac, note the vents immediately behind the front wheel. That is a distinctive design hallmark of the Vauxhall VXR. Also note that this vehicle is right-hand drive, as the Holden and its Chevy counterpart will be very closely related. That likely includes potential drivetrains. The spy photos of this mule also reveal very wide rear tires, and rear wheels that do not match the fronts.

Experimental mid-engine XP-819 Corvette going up for auction

Sun, 17 Feb 2013

It seems to be commonplace that when a new Corvette is in development, rumors swirl about a possible mid-engine layout. As is the case of Chevy's most recent C7 Corvette, these rumors never pan out.
In any case, the idea for a 'Vette with an engine mounted behind the driver can probably all be traced back to a single car, the 1964 XP-819 prototype. Built as an "engineering exercise" back in 1964, the prototype was designed with a rear-mounted engine. History tells us that the idea of a rear-engine Corvette fizzled, and the XP-819 was eventually cut up into pieces and stored at a shop in Daytona Beach, FL.
After sitting for untold years, a restoration project started on the car, and while it isn't yet fully completed, the current owner of the car, Mid America Motorworks, will have the car on display at the 2013 Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance as a "driveable chassis" with hopes of having a fully completed car ready to bring to next year's show.

Final C6 Corvette built in Bowling Green

Fri, 01 Mar 2013

With all of the attention given to the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray lately, you could be forgiven for thinking that it's already well along in production, yet tooling up for the new C7 has only just begun. In fact, production of the outgoing C6 generation in Bowling Green, Kentucky just halted on Thursday.
As the C6 has aged, production numbers have predictably ebbed along with demand, but this year, the addition of the 427 and 60th anniversary models resulted in an uptick in vehicles built - this, despite a model year shortened by around 25 percent to accomodate the new model changeover. The final C6 Corvette ever, No. 13,466 built this year, was a white 427 Convertible destined for the General Motors Heritage Center museum. The car's 7.0-liter V8 heart was assembled by Corvette chief engineer Tadge Juechter himself.
In total, Bowling Green pushed out 215,100 C6 Corvettes over nine years. If you're still a C6 fan at heart and are hoping to get a good deal on a phase-out model, step lively - Chevrolet reportedly had about 6,100 unsold units, which Autoweek suggests is good for around five and a half months of supply at the model's current sales rates. Given that demand will likely slacken even further as the C7 draws closer, that should be a big enough stockpile to keep dealers satisfied until 2014 Stingrays begin showing up on their forecourts in December.
