1968 Ford Torino 390 2bl (Y code), 4 speed, Gulfstream Aqua, Aqua Vinyl buckets, PS with drum brakes Car was a restoration project that was started but never finished since early 2000. The car has had two repaints that I can see, one prior to 2002 which is visible in the door jambs and was also the wrong color and then again in 2002 when it was repainted the correct color code but the previous owner did not do the door jambs but he did have the inside of the trunk and under the hood sprayed. I would get the door jambs done and any body shop would do this for about $500. The body/paint is driver quality with two spots needing attention, one on the upper right rear quarter (filler has cracked), was told a new quart had been installed prior to the last paint job. The second spot is on the lower left bottom rear wheel opening, two bubbles are evident. Again these two spots could be fixed with ease and color matched. The interior has been partially redone but again never finished properly and still needs attention. There is an aftermarket steering wheel installed, wood grain but the original comes with the car but it needs restored due to cracking etc. The previous owner in 2002-05 had a headliner installed, door panels and bucket seat covers. The carpet is from the 90’s and has stains but might clean, but for $150 why bother. Package tray, sails and door cups need dyed. The dash paid is trashed but an OEM one with no damage comes with the car, it needs dyed as well. All the weather stripping has been changed and is in good shape. The seatbelts are in need of restoration and the passenger side upper roof one is missing. The armrests are ok but the drivers is missing. I do not have the center console. A few windows knobs are also missing. The trim along the front of the headliner was missing but I have one from a donor car, it needs dyed. All gauges, electronics work with the exception of the dome light, it needs replaced. The factory tach is present/functions and an oil pressure gauge has been installed where the clock or filler goes. The quarter edge lacing is cut and needs replaced but the vinyl window lace is again fairly new and in good condition. All the glass is ok and all the window tracks have been rebuilt back in 2000’s. Tires are good and the rims were previously sand blasted but have been scratched here and there from the trim rings being taken off, one trim ring has curbed rash and all 4 center caps GT emblem should be replaced. All stainless on the car is ok but could use a good polish. Both bumpers have been re chromed and still show well. The front grill GT emblem and rear GT emblem need attention, along with the rear taillight bezels (pitting). Both tail light lens are cracked. Side quarter molding along the windows are also pitted and need redone as well. All the suspension has been rebuilt since 2000’s to include ball joints, control arms, sway bar, shocks, and rear leaf springs, the car sits level. The rear end has been gone thru and now has 411 posi gears. The 4sp shifter has been rebuilt and the top loader has also been gone thru. The engine is the original block and has been gone thru and rebuilt and has a set of original 428CJ cast heads topped of with a edelbock aluminum intake and a Holley 750. A Mallory dist is installed and the original is still with the car. The motor has less than 1000 miles on it and at idle shows 65psi. Radiator has been gone thru as well. Brakes have also been redone. Exhaust has big tube headers and no leaks all the way back and still has plenty of life left. The metal dash has been cut but the metal was just bent back for a aftermarket radio and could be fixed easily, also an original radio comes with the car. The metal dash need painted and so do the windshield metal pillars on both sides. The car has the wrong fenders bolts but I have a OEM set. The drivers mirror is pitted and the clutch pedal trim is missing. There a few scratches on the car but just with rubbing compound the are already less visible, so a little 1000 grit on the clear coat should clean them up with ease. All in all the car is a good driver that needs about $1000 to make it look like an 18K car. Runs and drives great and almost everything mechanical has already been done. All that she needs is more or less cosmetic things done. As far as the undercarriage, torque boxes are good, floors are good and there is an old small 3 inch patch on the pass side that just needs undercoated to match the rest of the floor. Rails are fine, trunk is ok and so is under the front engine compartment. The previous owner spent over 20k on the car but just never stuck it out to finish the car from top to bottom and took over 15 years to try the get it done and now she just needs refreshed to get her done. I also have 1 inch folder with its repair history from all the way back to the 80’s. I have tried to describe the car from front to rear but I am human and do miss things, so please ask questions if you are a serious buyer and I will do my best to answer them and get you a photo of that specific area if possible. Clear title and a Marti Report.

Pickup sales may hit 2M units for first time since 2007

Sat, 21 Sep 2013

Even as fuel prices creep back up, trucks are still a hot item among new-vehicle shoppers. To see how popular pickup trucks still are, you don't have to look any further than how much effort automakers put into the continual one-upmanship of their trucks. Backing this fact up, USA Today is reporting that the segment could top two million sales this year - a total not matched since 2007, though still far from the pre-recession, three-million-unit levels.
Through August, the Ford F-Series continues to be the segment leader with almost 500,000 units sold, but the Chevy Silverado (328,269), Ram 1500 (234,642), GMC Sierra (122,232) and Toyota Tacoma (110,293) are all seeing at least 20-percent sales increases, helping to account for around 1.44 million truck sales so far this year - not including possible outliers like the Suzuki Equator and Chevy Avalanche.
This year alone, General Motors has completely redesigned its fullsize trucks, Ram and Toyota have significantly updated their offerings, the next-gen Ford F-150 will be out next year and Nissan is promising an all-new Titan around the same time with an eventual Cummins diesel under the hood. It would seem, then, that truck sales are poised to continue their upward trend.

Pickup prices rising at 2x industry average

Tue, 11 Jun 2013

We've said it before, but bears repeating: Pickup trucks are the financial engines of America's automakers. Good thing, then, that the segment is in rude health - in fact, Automotive News is suggesting that pickup truck sales are arguably healthier than they were pre-recession, even though the segment's volume is still significantly down from where it was before the bottom fell out of the US economy. That's because per-unit profits on full-size trucks are skyrocketing, outpacing the industry's average price increases by more than double since 2005. According to data from Edmunds, the average transaction price of a full-size pickup is now $39,915 - a heady increase over the $31,059 average price in 2005 - a gain of over 8 percent after inflation is factored in.
Just how important are trucks to automakers' bottom lines? Automotive News quotes a Morgan Stanley analyst as saying the Ford F-Series is responsible for 90 percent of the company's 2012 profits, and General Motors isn't far behind, with the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra twins chipping in about two-thirds of the automaker's earnings.
Automotive News points out that Detroit's automakers now have the money to invest in modernizing their full-size truck offerings, in part because they don't have the same overhead and legacy costs that pushed General Motors and Chrysler into bankruptcy. Certainly, the pickup segment has seen a lot of innovations as of late, including turbocharged V6s, coil-spring rear suspensions and active aero. Those improvements in important areas like fuel economy and ride comfort have given existing pickup buyers new reasons to upgrade. In addition, automakers are piling on the tech and luxury goodies, creating more and more high-content, high-profit models like the Ford F-150 King Ranch, Ram 1500 Laramie Longhorn and Chevrolet Silverado High Country (shown).

Project Ugly Horse alive and kicking at Road & Track

Thu, 29 Aug 2013

The hallways of the Autoblog campus are much quieter now that Zach Bowman has taken his prose, along with his welders, wrenches and hammers, over to the digital pages of Road & Track, but that doesn't mean our favorite project Mustang is gone forever. Project Ugly Horse is still coming along, and Zach has gifted us another update on his unfoxy Fox Body.
Last we saw of the Ugly Horse, Zach was strengthening up the '89 Mustang's chassis as he prepares to stuff the turbocharged, direct-injected EcoBoost engine of a Ford Focus ST under the hood. First things first, the old mill must go. Head on over to Road & Track to catch the latest chapter of Project Ugly Horse.
