Here is a 1970 Torino GT with an M code 351C 4V, 4speed and 3.25 9" rearend. Rare factory Black with laser stripe and white bucket seat interior. It also has power steering, hidden headlights and 15" Magnum 500's. Comes with Marti report and original build sheet. Oddly enough considering the color combination the car was built on October 31, 1969 (Halloween). It has been in the Seattle area it's whole life and was likely garaged much of its life. Odometer shows 21k miles and by the looks of things I would say it's 121k and not more.. This is a car that can basically be driven as is or do a very light restoration.

The body is very straight and solid. The paint is weak, thin in many spots with lots of chips. I believe most of the paint is original except for the hood and tops of the front fenders where the paint is cracking badly. The rear valance has also been replaced and painted at some point. Looks like a little bodywork was done to one front corner of the hood also. The rest of the body is very straight with no other evidence of repairs or patch panels. The trunk looks like new. There is one small dent in the rocker and a few dings but nothing major at all. Almost no rust on this car with very solid quarter panels, trunk, trunk drop-offs, trunk lip, cowl etc. There are a few very small bubbles in spots such as the driver's door and a couple on the quarters. There is also a bit of rust at the very front of the driver's side floor at the seam. There are typical cracks around the door latches on both sides. Driver's door has good hinges and opens and closes nicely, Passenger door needs hinge bushings/pins. Glass is good. Hidden headlights are overall in pretty good shape compared to most. They have a crack at the top on one side and the grill center has broken mounting tabs. Headlight doors will need rechroming. Front bumper is straight but chrome is weak. Rear bumper has a slight tweak near the center that is not all that noticeable, chrome is decent but not perfect. Laser stripes look original and are showing their age. 15x7 Magnums are reproduction and look nice but do have some minor pitting. Tires are 245/60R15, they have good tread and are not that old.

Interior is mostly original except for the front and rear seats which were recovered. Original dashpad is nice with no apparent cracks. Carpet, door panels, headliner and rear package tray are original and showing wear. Original radio is missing but the hole has not been cut out.

The 351C 4V is not #'s matching. It is a 72 block which I am told has 4 bolt mains but I have not verified it.  Retains original heads, intake, exhaust manifolds etc. Engine has fairly low miles and has no smoke or noises. Transmission works well as does the original Hurst shifter that still retains the original T handle with set screw but is missing the reverse lockout rod. Clutch has a bit of chatter as many old musclecars do. Drives smooth and straight with typical play in steering. Brakes seem to work fine. Lights and wipers work but heater blower motor is not currently functioning and I have not looked into it. Gauges work although temp gauge seems to read higher than actual temp so it probably needs a sending unit. It runs and drives as is but it has been sitting for the last 5 years or so and it could probably use a some general maintenance before it is driven regularly. It has a nice 2.5" dual exhaust system that sounds good. It does have a small leak at the driver's side manifold.

Overall this is a solid Torino with very desirable options and color combination. It looks great driving down the road and still got compliments when I drove it. It can be driven as is with a little maintenance or restored.

Car is sold as is where is. I have done my best to describe it but please understand it is 40+ years old and needs work. It is available for inspection by appointment. I reserve the right to end the auction at any time. $500 deposit due within 3 days with balance due in 7 days. Car must be picked up within 21 days unless prior arrangements are made. Shipping arrangements and costs are the responsibility of buyer. Bidders with a feedback rating of less than 10 must check with me before bidding or I will cancel your bid.

eBay Find Of The Day: 1988 Saleen Ford Mustang General Tire 21R race car

Tue, 29 Jul 2014

Saleen may be making headlines these days for working on the Tesla Model S, but its history and bread-and-butter is all about the Ford Mustang. The rear-wheel-drive Dearborn pony cars singlehandedly put the company on the map in the '80s. Founder Steve Saleen was already a talented American racing driver when he started the venture, and like many auto industry businesses before him, Saleen went to the track to prove his vehicles' worth. Now, there's a chance to buy one of those early racers on eBay Motors.
Saleen Mustangs raced in the Sports Car Club of America Escort Endurance Championship - a series of multi-hour races meant to challenge man and machine. Ostensibly a showroom stock class, the cars had larger wheels, tuned suspensions and other upgrades that stretched the concept slightly. Saleen found major success though, taking the championship for its class in 1987 and winning the 24 Hours of Mosport consecutively from 1986 through 1988.
According to the seller, Saleen only built eight of these cars, and this one carries the #21R serial number. They all started life as new Mustangs from Ford dealers but were immediately stripped and prepped to go racing. Beyond obvious mods like a roll cage, they featured eight-inch wide wheels in front, an inch of additional track width, stiffer suspension bushings and much more.

Ford partnering with MIT, Stanford on autonomous vehicle research

Fri, 24 Jan 2014

Ask any car engineer what's the biggest variable in achieving fuel economy targets, and he'll tell you "the driver." If one human can't understand human driving behavior enough to be certain about an innocuous number like miles per gallon, how is an autonomous car supposed to figure out what hundreds of other drivers are going to do in the course of a day? Ford has enlisted the help of Stanford and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology to find out.
Starting with the automated Fusion Hybrid introduced in December, MIT will be developing algorithms that driverless cars can use to "predict actions of other vehicles and pedestrians" and objects within the three-dimensional map provided by its four LIDAR sensors.
The Stanford team will research how to extend the 'vision' of that LIDAR array beyond obstructions while driving, analogous to the way a driver uses the entire width of a lane to see what's ahead of a larger vehicle in front. Ford says it wants to "provide the vehicle with common sense" as part of its Blueprint for Mobility, preparing for an autonomous world from 2025 and beyond.

Ford posts record pre-tax Q3 profit of $2.6B

Thu, 24 Oct 2013

Ford took in $2.6 billion in pre-tax profits in the third quarter of the year, making for a record trio of months that saw the Blue Oval's year-over-year earnings increase by $426 million. The earnings are being attributed not just to improvements in North American sales, but sales around the globe.
Revenue was up 12 percent, to $36 billion, although net income took a hit, dropping $359 million to $1.3 billion. Ford was dinged with $498 million in pre-tax charges, which are being blamed for the drop in net income.
The news has boosted Ford's hopes for full-year results, bumping it's total profits up past $8 billion, according to Automotive News. The Dearborn, MI-based manufacturer is still expecting a loss in Europe, although it's forecasted less than the $1.73 billion it burned in 2012. In fact, according to CFO Bob Shanks, Ford's European losses dropped by 51 percent year-over year, a huge improvement for the brand.
