1972 Gran Torino Sport. 460cu in motor (from a 1973 Ford Thunderbird), originally 2v 351 Cleveland.
C-6 automatic.
Power steering.
A/C
Magnum 500 rim with new Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 tires w/less than 500 miles on them.
Tilt steering column as an extra part.
A/C compressor and drier as extra parts.
Power brake pedal, booster, and associated parts for conversion to power brakes included as extra parts.
Restored Rally instrument cluster with 2 bezels and harness included as extra parts.

This vehicle is in great shape, it does have some minor problems, such as some previous rust spots in the lower rear quarter panels near the wheel well, which are not actively rusting/the rust was treated and stopped, but repairs have yet to be made. Also the steering pump could stand to be replaced.

The interior has been redone with NOS material (the front seat), the back seat is original and is beginning to suffer on the top near the package tray, but extra material will go with the car for when and if that ever needs to be done. There is a crack in the dash pad.

The front bumper has been newly chromed, the rear bumper is in good shape but could stand to be re-chromed in the future.

The body is in good shape and has some minor chips here and there. The paint is holding up well, I believe this to be the second paint job, and is nearing time for a third, but polished up well and could easily last 10 more years if the car is kept in a garaged place, as it is now. The car does not get driven in bad weather, unless I am out driving and a sudden rain takes place. Never driven in snow or during the winter, as a matter of fact.

The car drives and tracks very well, it is really fun to cruise in. The engine is strong, lots of torque, burns no oil, the only problem I have experienced is I think the left side header needs a header gasket replaced.

2013 Ford Explorer Sport

Thu, 04 Apr 2013

When one speaks of sporty and fun-to-drive utility vehicles, few would put the Ford Explorer in the same category as the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8, BMW X5 or Porsche Cayenne. Yet, with just a few reservations, I'd toss the new-for-2013 Ford Explorer Sport close to that arena for consideration.
As a recap, the sportiest of Explorers is fitted with Ford's twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter Ecoboost V6, making 365 horsepower and 350 pound feet of torque. Acceleration is brisk (figure about 7 seconds to 60 miles per hour), as power goes to all four wheels through a six-speed automatic transmission. Contributing to its more athletic demeanor are larger front brakes, a sport-tuned suspension, chassis upgrades, quicker steering ratio and a more aggressive wheel/tire package. Cosmetically, the Sport is distinguished by its blacked-out lights, black trim and noticeable lack of chrome (with the exception of the door handles).
Ford recently handed me the keys to a Ruby Red Metallic Explorer Sport. Rather than mindlessly drive the big seven-passenger all-wheel drive hauler in soccer mom circles around Los Angeles, I loaded up my family and embarked on a long weekend road trip to Yosemite National Park.

Ford reveals all-new Everest SUV at Asia-Pacific forum [w/poll]

Thu, 13 Nov 2014

While the Explorer may have shifted from a truck-based sport-ute to a car-based crossover, Ford still offers buyers on the other side of the Pacific a Ranger-based SUV in the form of the Everest. And at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit in Beijing today, the Blue Oval revealed the all-new version you see here.
Previewed in concept form over a year ago and made specifically for the Asia-Pacific market, the new Ford Everest is designed to be more refined on the road and more capable off of it. Like the Explorer once was, the new Everest is based on a stretched version of the overseas Ford Ranger pickup. Depending on the specific market, Ford will offer the new Everest with a range of engines including a 2.0-liter EcoBoost turbo four and two Duratorq turbodiesels - a 2.2-liter four and a 3.2-liter inline-five - mated to a six-speed automatic transmission.
Earmarked to take on the likes of the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado (known in these parts as the Lexus GX) and the Jeep Grand Cherokee, the new Everest promises rock-crawlers even better off-road capabilities. It's got nearly nine inches of ground clearance, over 30 inches of wading depth, a 29-degree approach and 25-degree departure angles and a set of features including on-the-fly adjustable four-wheel drive.

NHTSA and Ford investigating steering issues in Crown Vic, Grand Marquis and Marauder

Fri, 11 Jul 2014

There may be more steering woes for the Ford Crown Victoria. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has opened a preliminary evaluation into the Crown Vic and Mercury Grand Marquis from the 2004 to 2007 model years and the Mercury Marauder for the 2004 and 2005 model years because the steering shaft can jam. The issue could potentially affect an estimated 500,000 vehicles.
According to the regulator, there is a possibility that the driver's side heat shield for the exhaust manifold can rust, dislodge, and then wedge into the steering shaft. If this occurs, it leads to a situation where the driver can no longer control the car.
NHTSA has received five complaints of this happening, including one alleged case with an injury. In that situation, the car was driving onto the highway, lost control and rolled over. One occupant was hurt in the accident.
