British car manufacturer Lotus made the Esprit from 1976-2004 with a future release set in 2014. In 1987, the Esprit underwent a redesign by Peter Stevens for its fourth generation. It was often known by its project code of X180. A new Lotus patented process was introduced to create the new body called the VARI (Vacuum Assisted Resin Injection) process which offered more advantages than the previous hand-laid process. Kevlar reinforcement was added to the roof and sides for roll-over protection. The Stevens styled cars retained the mechanical components of the previous high compression Esprit and turbo Esprit but introduced a stronger Renault transaxle. The exterior style changes were accompanied by a redesign of the interior allowing more room for the driver and passengers. This Vehicle: The Lotus you see pictured has great ride and performance. This Esprit was well-cared for as the previous owner provided more than $11,000 in maintenance receipts from various shops around the southern California area. The original owners handbook is included with purchase. The black exterior paint shows well, and the original saddle leather interior shows some slight wear from usage but it does not take away from the drivability of the car. Lotus hits the track with new Elise S Cup R
Mon, 11 Nov 2013If you want to take a Lotus to the track but the Exige V6 Cup is a bit too much to handle, the boys from Hethel have a new offering that may be of interest.
The new Elise S Cup R features all the track-tuned bells and whistles of its six-cylinder brethren, including a competition-spec aero kit, adjustable suspension, Yokohama racing slicks on 17-inch forged alloys, tow hooks, remapped ECU, cross-drilled and ventilated disc brakes and an interior with a HANS-compatible bucket seat, six-point racing harness and quick-release steering wheel. But instead of a heavier and more powerful V6, the Elise S Cup R "adds lightness" with the same 1.8-liter supercharged inline-four with 217 horsepower and 181 pound-feet of torque as the road-going Elise S. Yet with all that track-tuned gear, it's a good four seconds per three-mile lap faster than the showroom stock version in the automaker's testing.
Interested parties can pick one up in the UK for £39,125 (before taxes, equivalent to about $63k) and either lap it to their hearts' content at private track days or enter it in one of the dozen Lotus Cup series operating around the world. Lotus honors F1 efforts with limited-edition Exige LF1
Tue, 10 Jun 2014Lotus has announced a new, special edition of its hardcore Exige for customers in the UK and Europe. Limited to just 81 units (for the Lotus Formula One team's 81 victories), the new Exige LF1 is the ultimate accessory for fans of the British manufacturer's Formula One efforts.
Befitting of a car inspired by the Lotus E22, this particular Exige is finished in the team's traditional black and gold colors, complete with red accents inspired by the F1 racer. The exterior is further enhanced with unique badges that proclaim the LF1's limited-edition status. Matte gold wheels have also been fitted, just like this Lotus' big brother.
This isn't purely a paint-and-stickers job, though. Lotus has also touched up the cabin, offering up black leather and "technical fabric," complete with gold contrast stitching and piping. The seat backs and floor mats feature embroidered logos, while an individually numbered, carbon-fiber plaque sits on the LF1's dash.
Lotus Exige S gets automatic transmission option
Sun, 26 Oct 2014A vehicle as light and agile as the Lotus Exige is all about driver involvement, but those enticed by the nimble sports car's handling and performance who aren't keen on working a stick shift now have another option at their disposal.
Lotus has just announced the availability of an automatic transmission on both the Exige S and Exige S Roadster. For an extra couple thousand euros or pounds sterling, customers will now be able to order a six-speed automatic transmission. The two-pedal setup includes paddle shifters and Sport or Race modes that optimize shifting for "a more spirited drive."
Equipped with the slushbox, the Exige S Automatic is just as quick around Lotus' famous factory test track in Hethel, and even pips the manual version's 0-62 time by 0.1 second, now down to 3.9. Unfortunately, since the Exige isn't available Stateside anymore, however, American buyers can't get their hands on either version.
