Lotus Elan S4/SE. Fixed Head Coupe This Lotus Elan is a 1970 S4/SE model. It has had the same owner for over 40 years. It is an occasional driver in the summer, and has 63,000 miles on the odometer. It has been kept in the original Gold Leaf Racing livery - Red, over White with a gold stripe along bumper line. Extra touchup paint comes with the car Body Trim and paint The car is in original condition, All body panels, hood, doors and trunk lid are original, and all close and open nicely. The car was repainted the same Gold Leaf Racing colors four years ago.There are no cracks or marks in the fiberglass. There are some paint bump spots. Underside of the body is original and solid. Instruments, Radio and Switches All instruments and (original) radio work. All switches work except, four way flasher and kill switch which are disconnected. ElectricalsAll trim is installed, there are two repaired cracks on the plastic transmission tunnel cover and one on the bottom of the right window post plastic cover. There is new rubber around the front window. The seats door panels, headliner and rear are original and in good condition, The dash has had new wood veneer cover, and the dash crash pad has vinyl cover as the original vinyl has a crack in the middle. A MotoLita steering wheel replaces the stock Lotus steering wheel. Headlights, tail lights, brake lights turn signals, wipers and horn work. An Interstate brand 12 volt battery is installed. The generator was cleaned and tested earlier this year The original (numbers matching) engine is installed. It has about 10,000 miles since rebuilding. The weber carburerators were recently tuned and balanced. The engine comes with both standard points ignition and breakerless ignition. The transmission and differential are original and have had new lubricant installed this winter. Suspension bushings were replaced several years ago. Original knock on wheels are installed and in good condition. (Note there are wrench scratches) The spare wheel is missing. Four 165R/13 Pirelli P4 tires are installed. All tires have good tread. The brakes have stainless steel pistons installed. This past winter DOT 4 brake fluid was replaced. Known IssuesThe car has always has had 165/13 tires instead of the original 155/13 size. This is the reason for the ellipse wear on the front fenders above the tires. Back plate between engine and bell housing not installed (in trunk) Battery hold down - front bolt stripped threads left side motor mount bracket crack (photographed) Dash has been recovered for cracks Helicoil inserted in left rear brake caliper bleed screw. NHTSA investigating Lotus Elise for oil leaks
Mon, 25 Jul 2011The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has received 17 complaints about an errant oil line in the Lotus Elise, and thus, has opened an investigation. The issue concerns the line on the front right cooler, which, having got loose, sprays oil either on the wheel or inside the engine bay.
This investigation pertains to around 4,400 of the little track-day wonders sold in the 2005 and 2006 model years. There have been no injuries, but one car did leave the road and catch on fire. A NHTSA investigation doesn't mean a full recall has been issued, just that your friends in the fed are looking into the matter.
Lotus could build production versions of Renault Alpine, Infiniti Emerg-E
Tue, 14 Aug 2012As with one of those blockbuster three-team NBA trades that actually improves the fortunes of every team involved, a report in Autocar indicates that Renault, Infiniti and Lotus are in talks that could benefit both manufacturers and enthusiasts. Renault is considering a production version of the devil-in-blue Alpine A110-50 concept but has said that it "probably needs more than the Renault-Nissan Alliance on its own." Enter Lotus, whose Evora platform could supply the running bits for the mid-engined Alpine revival.
That same Evora platform, in range-extended 414E concept form, is the basis for the Infiniti Emerg-E concept. Even though a decision hasn't been made on the Emerg-E's production, it is still being developed and the company has admitted that it "could be built in Britain." For its part, Lotus has said that it's ahead of schedule on the Evora 414E, with its 408 horsepower, 738 pound-feet of torque and 30-mile electric range. Development funds from both Renault and Infiniti could help make all three cars a closer possibility.
Lotus to receive $16M government grant
Mon, 25 Nov 2013Troubled British automaker Lotus is getting a second infusion of cash following a 100-million-pound ($161.5-million) investment by its parent company DRB-Hicom that was made in August. The substantially smaller investment, a mere 10 million pounds ($16.2 million), comes from the British government's Regional Growth Fund.
The fund, which is part of a 3-billion-pound ($4.8-billion) fund to spur economic growth in the UK, will allow Lotus to invest even further in research and development as it seeks to reinvent its lineup of lightweight sports cars. The fund will also allow the UK-based outfit to provide further training for its new crop of employees.
"This grant is part of a wider strategy for Lotus created to ensure we thrive and grow. We are responding to increased global demand for our cars and engineering consultancy services and this grant will help to position Lotus as the forefront of global automotive innovation," said Aslam Farikullah (shown above with UK Business Secretary Vince Cable MP), the chief operating officer at Lotus.
