Caterham Super 7 Sprint “Classic SE” – Immaculate condition.  This is a fully street legal (licensed and titled in Utah), all-weather Caterham with all street gear – full top, side doors with windows, windshield wipers, aircraft-type electric defrosting windshield and cabin heater.  It also includes a bolt-on rear spare tire carrier and spare (wheel identical to the others.)  It is the “Caterham Classic SE” model with 1600 Ford (Kent engine) with DCOE40 Webers and 4-speed transmission and weighs approximately 1100 pounds.  The differential is an Ital unit with 1/4 ” plate reinforcement on the housing SE as used on the Caterham Challenge Series race cars. Fully adjustable gas Spax shocks.   It includes custom-fabricated aluminum doors and side screens (not to be confused with the factory soft doors and full windows, also included).  These aluminum doors attach to the factory hinges and make the car a lot more civil for highway use as they reduce the tremendous buffeting a normal doorless 7 produces.  As with the factory doors they are readily removable.   The Cibie headlights and turn signals  have been relocated for better aerodynamics and an updated appearance.  The headlight relocation is a custom bolt-on application and was done without destroying any of the factory parts so the headlights can be relocated to the original position quite easily if you prefer the classic Lotus 7 look.  The car has been driven about 12,000 miles since new (mostly highway use), has never been damaged and everything works perfectly.  It has always been stored in a dry garage, under a car cover.  It is ready and can be driven across the country If the buyer wants to fly in and drive it home.  However, other arrangements would have to be made for the extra set of tires and Superlite wheels (identical to those shown in the photos except they are Michelin street tires.   The tires shown on the car are Toyo R888.  The interior includes the adjustable leather Caterham bucket seat option (includes headrests) with full carpeting throughout. Extremely comfortable. Graphics (number spots and other stickers (which were applied for car shows only) are all removable vinyl.  This Caterham is a fantastically fun street driver and the perfect car for track days.  The Caterham factory  Manual and Assembly Guide is also included along with all receipts.  The car is being offered at $25,000.  New Caterham kits are priced from $45,000 to $90,000   Buyer will provide own transportation of vehicle which will be released upon receipt of full purchase price in cash.  Please call for more details.  Ron Christensen – 801-706-1054 (cell – voice only please) or 801-467-6370 (home)

Race Recap: 2013 German Grand Prix is old beginnings, new endings [spoilers]

Mon, 08 Jul 2013

Just like at Silverstone last weekend, the German Formula One Grand Prix started with Lewis Hamilton putting his Mercedes-AMG Petronas on pole. The only thing missing at the pointy end of the grid was his teammate Nico Rosberg, who lined up beside him in England but back in 11th in Germany because of a team error in qualifying. So instead it was Vettel in the first Infiniti Red Bull in second, his teammate Mark Webber in third, the Lotus duo of Kimi Räikkönen and Romain Grosjean.
Again, just like at Silverstone - and Canada - Daniel Ricciardo used his magic beans to impress with the Toro Rosso, lining up in sixth, followed by Felipe Massa in the first Ferrari, Fernando Alonso in the second. Jenson Button in the McLaren, Nico Hülkenberg finished up the top ten.
When the lights went green, it didn't take long for the race to become a black-and-blue affair...

Lotus to receive $16M government grant

Mon, 25 Nov 2013

Troubled British automaker Lotus is getting a second infusion of cash following a 100-million-pound ($161.5-million) investment by its parent company DRB-Hicom that was made in August. The substantially smaller investment, a mere 10 million pounds ($16.2 million), comes from the British government's Regional Growth Fund.
The fund, which is part of a 3-billion-pound ($4.8-billion) fund to spur economic growth in the UK, will allow Lotus to invest even further in research and development as it seeks to reinvent its lineup of lightweight sports cars. The fund will also allow the UK-based outfit to provide further training for its new crop of employees.
"This grant is part of a wider strategy for Lotus created to ensure we thrive and grow. We are responding to increased global demand for our cars and engineering consultancy services and this grant will help to position Lotus as the forefront of global automotive innovation," said Aslam Farikullah (shown above with UK Business Secretary Vince Cable MP), the chief operating officer at Lotus.

Lotus team out of Le Mans, full driver list published

Tue, 20 May 2014

We can scratch off one more car from the list for the 2014 24 Hours of Le Mans. The Lotus T129 LMP1 car has been dropped from the entry list of the 82nd running of the historic race, with organizers citing "a lack of preparation" as the reason. On a more positive note, the list of 168 drivers in 56 vehicles has been officially published for the June 14 race.
Like the Lotus team currently in Formula One, the Lotus T129 uses the iconic British brand's name and colors but is actually built by a separate company. It previously ran a Lola chassis in the LMP2-class (pictured above). The Le Mans organizers claim the car will likely be on display during the 24-hour race, but it won't make it's competition debut until the World Endurance Championship round at the Circuit of the Americas in September. The T129 is being replaced by an Oreca 03 chassis with Nissan power in the LMP2 class, entered by Millennium Racing.
The Lotus' retirement came as the teams had to send in the names of the three drivers nominated to race each car. This year there are racers from 26 countries with the most coming from France (39), Britain (29), the US (17) and Italy (15). The latest tally of entries breaks down to 9 LMP1s, 19 LMP2s, 9 LM GTE Pros, 18 LM GTE Ams and the Nissan ZEOD RC as the experimental Garage 56 entry.
