1963 Mercury Comet California Survivor on 2040-cars
Rancho Santa Margarita, California, United States
This is a perfect example of a rust free unmolested CA car. This mercury comet was assembled in Los Angeles California and has always been a garage kept southern California car. All body panels line up perfectly straight. The comet has it’s original 2.8l 170ci six cylinder that runs as
smooth as can be, backed up with an automatic transmission it makes great for
cruising. (The original 3 on a tree was converted to an automatic) Everything has been gone through to make this thing a daily
driver while still keeping all of its originality. New fuel pump, carburetor,
spark plugs, suspension and leaf springs, all aluminum radiator, thermostat,
rear end gone through and completely rebuilt, new brakes on all 4 corners. This
car is very reliable and runs cool even in bumper-to-bumper traffic in Los
Angeles. Paint and interior are original as well; The paint still shows
nice for being this old, but there are some scratches on the passenger side and
the roof is a bit faded as shown in pictures. The interior is very nice with
only a minor scuff on the drivers seat.
A newer radio was installed in the glove box so you can listen to music
while still keeping the original in place. Somewhere along the way the previous owner added some s22 trim,
which adds to the car, but the car is originally a 2 door custom sedan. This
car is perfect to daily drive, cruise on the weekends, take to local shows, or
restore since most of the original parts are there, only missing the hood and
trunk emblem, the window handles for the back seats, and two of the hubcaps.
Has current 2015 tags with clean CA title in my name on hand. Please feel free
to ask any questions. I encourage you to come take a look at the car for yourself
before bidding. Car is being sold as is and buyer pays for shipping. All
inspections of the car must be made before auction ends. A $500 deposit is
required within 48 hours from auction end date. Car is also for sale locally so I
reserve the right to end action early. |

Ford recalls Five Hundred, Mercury Montego sedans over fuel tank woes
Mon, 18 Jul 2011Ford has announced through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that it is recalling nearly 3,000 examples of its Five Hundred and Mercury Montego (pictured) sedans from the 2007 model year.
The action, which affects 2,945 vehicles, is due to potentially defective welds between the filler neck and the fuel tank, a condition that could result in a fuel leak or the smell of gasoline reaching the occupants. In the worst-case scenario, a leak could cause a fire. Cars with the affected fuel tank problem could see an illuminated dashboard warning light as a result of the evaporative emissions leak being detected.
Ford will inspect and replace the fuel tank at no cost to owners (those who have already had the procedure done at-cost can apply for reimbursement), and the Dearborn automaker will begin notifying Five Hundred and Montego owners beginning August 15. Check out the official NHTSA press release after the jump for further details.
NHTSA and Ford investigating steering issues in Crown Vic, Grand Marquis and Marauder
Fri, 11 Jul 2014There may be more steering woes for the Ford Crown Victoria. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has opened a preliminary evaluation into the Crown Vic and Mercury Grand Marquis from the 2004 to 2007 model years and the Mercury Marauder for the 2004 and 2005 model years because the steering shaft can jam. The issue could potentially affect an estimated 500,000 vehicles.
According to the regulator, there is a possibility that the driver's side heat shield for the exhaust manifold can rust, dislodge, and then wedge into the steering shaft. If this occurs, it leads to a situation where the driver can no longer control the car.
NHTSA has received five complaints of this happening, including one alleged case with an injury. In that situation, the car was driving onto the highway, lost control and rolled over. One occupant was hurt in the accident.
Report: Last Mercury for retail business built on Sunday
Mon, 04 Oct 2010Ford is already well into winding down its Mercury line, and the autoamker has announced that the very last of the soon-to-be dead brand's products built for retail sales was manufactured on Sunday, October 3. The final Mercury Mariner rolled off of the assembly line at the company's Kansas City facility, putting an end to a brand with over 70 years of history behind it.
Even after the Mariner heads off into the automotive sunset, Ford says that it will continue to manufacture a handful of Mercury models for fleet and government service for a while longer, though mum's the word on how long we can expect that practice to continue.
Interestingly enough, according to USA Today, most incentives on Mercury vehicles have all but dried up, even as the brand's August production increased by 120 percent compared to July's figures. Instead of cash on the hood, some areas are offering no-cost maintenance or similar programs. Even so, Mercury has continued to out-sell Lincoln right to the end - besting Ford's luxury arm's sales by nine percent in August.
