1965 Mercury Comet Cyclone, This car was built in Lorain, Ohio on December 12th 1964... shes almost 50. Sold new at Macon county Ford/Mercury it lived most of its life in Macon, Georgia. Its been in NC for a few years now. This is my 5th comet, 2nd Cyclone- I hate to sell it but have too many projects going on at once to finish it. I have a clear title in my name.

Ill describe the car as best I can- Original red with white vinyl top, I thought about painting top white to look factory but I have the trim pieces to make it a regular hardtop if you wanted to. Car was painted about 7 years ago and shines nicely, has a few minor spots on rh front fender that may buff out. Top is losing its shine a little bit.  Frame rails are solid. Needs heater core, bypassed for now.

This is one of the Cyclones that came with the uber-rare factory fiberglass hood. Original owner removed it for safekeeping replacing it with standard hood but it was painted to match when car was done. It is in excellent condition, you know what these hoods go for since only an estimated 200-300 were made- see pics. Doors, hood, deck lid and front fenders were removed when painted so both sides could be done and are in great shape. Painted in PPG Nason Holly Red, real sharp. interior was originally red carpet with white buckets. Now has black caliente bench seats.

Car has 69 mustang 4 barrel 302 with 88 mustang GT H.O. heads for running unleaded. Early 70s vintage weiand intake and edelbrock carb. Mild cam. Original 4 speed. Runs strong, turns great, brakes well, shifts well, sounds great nice throaty exhaust note. Lights, signals, wipers and gauges work but amp gauge doesn't always indicate proper volts though car charges perfectly.  69 mach one chrome wheels with fairly new rubber.

New parts include- dash pad, battery, leaf springs (St Louis spring company) shackles, bushings and all hardware with new KYB gas-adjust shocks. Headliner is new but needs tightened up some. Windsheild and seal, rear window seal, trunk seal and door seals. Door panels were recovered with new armrests a couple years ago. Freshly chromed front bumper- still in box. Needs rear bumper chromed and has a slight bend in it that could be straightened by any decent bumper shop. I have rear window trim but haven't installed it yet. Also have 2 lower windshield trim pieces both in good shape. Many extra parts including headlight buckets with entire headlight assembly and housing, gauge cluster taillights, turn signals, rear trim panels, front wheelwell trim, drip rails, cyclone bucket seats and rear seat- need recovered, console- needs restored but all there and not broken- more trim parts etc. I do not have rocker molding or rear wheelwell trim- these parts are unique to the Cyclone and are very difficult to find. I opted to leave it plain but you can fnd them on ebay sometimes.

If you want a true red 65 cyclone 4 speed, here ya go, drive it while you finish it or just cruise as is, guaranteed to draw attention everywhere you go. No warranty expressed or implied- NO RESERVE. Thanks for looking!

Ford announces free brake pad offer if customers stop by dealers

Mon, 04 Aug 2014

These days, when you buy a new car, it's not unreasonable to expect a certain period of free maintenance to come along as well. Sometimes this is through the life of the warranty, in other cases a little less. But Ford Motor Company is going beyond those deals for at least one part of its cars. As of now, if you buy a set of Motorcraft brake pads for a Ford, Lincoln or Mercury model, you get free replacements for as long as you own the vehicle. The offer is good at Ford or Lincoln dealers and Quick Lane Tire & Auto Centers.
"We will replace the pads for as long as you own the vehicle," said Elizabeth Weigandt to Autoblog. She did clarify that the Motorcraft pads are generally for models from the '90s or newer. Also, to take advantage of this program, a person must return to the same dealer each time to get the free parts.
Of course, Ford isn't just handing out brake pads to anyone who walks by; there are certain stipulations. First, the components have to be worn down to less than three millimeters to be eligible, and the buyer still has to pay for the labor to install them. If the model is used as a fleet vehicle for commercial purposes like as a taxi or limousine, this offer also doesn't apply; the same thing for racecars. On the plus side, if you recently bought a set of pads from one of the participating locations, you're still in luck. The deal covers parts purchased as of July 1.

NHTSA will investigate some Ford Fusion, Lincoln MKZ models for power steering issue

Tue, 07 Oct 2014

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is opening an investigation into the 2010-2012 Ford Fusion, Fusion Hybrid and Lincoln MKZ, the 2012 MKZ Hybrid and 2011 Mercury Milan because the agency has hundreds of complaints of electric power steering failure in these models.
According to NHTSA's data, it has received 508 complaints of the power steering allegedly suddenly malfunctioning and resulting in increased effort to turn the wheel. In four incidents, these failures resulted in loss of control and crashes. According to the reports, in some cases a power steering warning message came on as the fault occurred, and other times the system restored itself by turning off and then restarting the vehicle. NHTSA said it has also received further field report data from Ford, but that information hasn't been publicly released yet.
For the moment, there isn't a recall for this failure on these models. NHTSA is just investigating them to "assess the scope, frequency and safety consequences of the alleged defect," and the agency says an estimated 938,000 vehicles could potentially be affected.

Fitting Retirement: Grand Marquis last Mercury off the line

Wed, 05 Jan 2011

The signs have come down and retail production ended back in October of 2010. Now, the very last Mercury model has rolled off the assembly line. This last Mercury somewhat fittingly takes the form of a Grand Marquis reporting for fleet duty. It was built at the St. Thomas plant in Ontario, Canada, which is the same facility that continues to produce the Ford Crown Victoria and Lincoln Town Car for fleet and livery duty.
St. Thomas' days are numbered, however, as the factory is slated to close on August 31. When it goes, the Panther platform is likely to follow. So long, and thanks for all the fish memories.
