This very rare Mercury Comet / Caliente convertible is one of only 1539 produced in 1967. A ground up restoration was completed in 2007 with a new top and boot added in 2010. The odometer shows 26927 but you could probably add a 1 in front. The original 289 c.i. engine runs well with no issues. It is upgraded with an Edelbrock intake and Edelbrock 4 barrel carb to produce 225 h.p. and is linked to a C-4 automatic transmission which shifts up and down smoothly. The engine bay is nicely detailed with some chrome here and there including the rad overflow. A brand new Interstate battery is on the tray. The underside is clean and solid (original floor pans) with a new exhaust system front to back, 4 new shocks/air at back for rear end height adjustment, new parts up front and a new gas tank. A year ago I added the 8" x 15" American Racing Torque Thrust wheels and the BFG P215/70R 15 redline tires (less than 1000 miles on them). Inside you will find the black rolled vinyl seats are in very good condition with no tears or seams coming apart and new spotless rugs throughout. The dash has been re-chromed. The clock is not working. The original radio actually works but the power wire is shorting somewhere so it will have to be re-wired. All other instruments, three speed heater fan, wipers, all lights and signals, etc are working. A new heater core was recently installed. The trunk is clean with a floor liner in place and inside is a period whitewall spare with cover to match the liner. The power top opens and closes flawlessly while the boot gives it that finished look when open. The deep red paint has a very nice appearance (I would say a 9 out of 10), seams and gaps are all good and the sides appear straight. The glass is all good, windows open and close properly. This beautiful classic cruiser is an above average driver quality car that attracts a lot of attention. Perfect for weekend cruise-ins, shows or a drive to your favourite spot for lunch with top down on a warm sunny day.

Automakers tussle over owners of 'orphan' makes

Thu, 10 May 2012

When General Motors put down several of its brands in recent years, it also let loose thousands of brand-loyal customers who will eventually need another car.
R.L. Polk Associates estimates there are more than 18 million cars from 16 discontinued makes on the road today. Those "orphan owners" have sales-hungry competitors seeing dollar signs. GM is offering Saturn owners $1,000 cash toward a Chevy Cruze, Cadillac CTS or a GMC Acadia. Ford is giving its Mercury lease customers a chance to get out of their contracts with no early-termination penalty and offering to waive six remaining payments if they drive off in a Ford or Lincoln.
Edmunds.com research shows the efforts are paying off somewhat for GM, with 39 percent of Pontiac owners, 37 percent of Hummer owners and 31 percent of Saturn owners taking delivery of another GM-branded vehicle. But that leaves as much as 69 percent of owners going elsewhere. Ford, Honda and Toyota seem to be attracting many former GM owners.

Ford recalling 370,000 Crown Vic, Grand Marquis and Town Car models

Fri, 30 Aug 2013

The Detroit News is reporting that Ford will recall some 370,000 Crown Victoria (pictured), Mercury Grand Marquis and Lincoln Town Car vehicles from model years 2005 through 2011, for an issue regarding the lower intermediate steering shaft. 355,000 of the vehicles in question were sold in the US, with the other 15,000 sold in Canada.
The report indicates that corrosion of the lower intermediate steering shaft could cause a "loss of steering," presumably because of a partial or complete failure of the part. The report points out the dealers will inspect and replace the offending steering component for recalled cars, and may also secure a lower steering column bearing and replace the upper intermediate steering shaft as needed. The company is unaware of any reports of the faulty part causing any accidents or injuries.
Ford helpfully lists states in which corrosion is more likely to have taken place, mostly in the Snow Belt, as you might guess. Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, Wisconsin, West Virginia, and the District of Columbia are listed.

Ford announces free brake pad offer if customers stop by dealers

Mon, 04 Aug 2014

These days, when you buy a new car, it's not unreasonable to expect a certain period of free maintenance to come along as well. Sometimes this is through the life of the warranty, in other cases a little less. But Ford Motor Company is going beyond those deals for at least one part of its cars. As of now, if you buy a set of Motorcraft brake pads for a Ford, Lincoln or Mercury model, you get free replacements for as long as you own the vehicle. The offer is good at Ford or Lincoln dealers and Quick Lane Tire & Auto Centers.
"We will replace the pads for as long as you own the vehicle," said Elizabeth Weigandt to Autoblog. She did clarify that the Motorcraft pads are generally for models from the '90s or newer. Also, to take advantage of this program, a person must return to the same dealer each time to get the free parts.
Of course, Ford isn't just handing out brake pads to anyone who walks by; there are certain stipulations. First, the components have to be worn down to less than three millimeters to be eligible, and the buyer still has to pay for the labor to install them. If the model is used as a fleet vehicle for commercial purposes like as a taxi or limousine, this offer also doesn't apply; the same thing for racecars. On the plus side, if you recently bought a set of pads from one of the participating locations, you're still in luck. The deal covers parts purchased as of July 1.
