"HELLS CHARIOT" MERCURY CONVERTIBLE FROM THE MOVIE GREASE! This is the first time this car has been offered to the public since the release of the most successful musical in motion picture history! The iconic and the ultimate "bad boy" car. This auction is for the actual, documented and verified Mercury from the biggest grossing musical in the history of motion pictures! Of all the star cars from the movie, this is the ONLY one that exists and in private hands. Lost for nearly 30 years, it was found last year as basically just a shell. After the car was purchased, it was verified by the original builder of the cars for the movie, Eddie Paul of Customs by Eddie Paul. Eddie is a legend in the Hollywood community! The car was then taken to "The Shop" of Palm Desert, Ca. Owner Dan Condon was entrusted to do a complete restoration to just the way it appeared in the movie, but MUCH nicer fit and finish. The body had NO rust, and the finished product is beyond any of our expectations! It is a 1949 with a 1950 grill. We have the original exhaust tips that were in the movie. Recreated "Scorpion" stickers on both doors. The razor hubcaps have been meticulously recreated. We also recreated the 3 feet longer versions that cut into the side of John Travolta's car in the final race scene. They are included. We also have the original bent front bumper that was on the car when it rear ended Travolta's car. An original 1949 255 Mercury engine was rebuilt, as well as the manual tranny with overdrive. The car runs and drives great! Brand new period and movie correct Firestone tires installed, as well as the Firestone stickers on the wing windows. Recreated original license plates. There are many, many stories about the movie that we will share with the new owner that ties it all together, including on how the car was located! The car has been shown recently for the first time, and the response was amazing! People flipped! We have build pictures from day 1 until completion. Please do not email asking the reserve. SERIOUS buyers are welcome to call and discuss the car and payment options. Bargain hunters and dreamers please don't waste our time. We can go on seemingly forever with stories and history. The car was recently filmed for a television show in Hungary, and just this past week Tim Sutton, probably the best and most respected Hot Rod photographer anywhere, shot it for 4 separate magazines in France, Germany, Italy and England. Many more pictures available upon request. This iconic piece of American film history is being sold as-is, where is. No warranties of any kind are expressed or implied. Fitting Retirement: Grand Marquis last Mercury off the line
Wed, 05 Jan 2011The signs have come down and retail production ended back in October of 2010. Now, the very last Mercury model has rolled off the assembly line. This last Mercury somewhat fittingly takes the form of a Grand Marquis reporting for fleet duty. It was built at the St. Thomas plant in Ontario, Canada, which is the same facility that continues to produce the Ford Crown Victoria and Lincoln Town Car for fleet and livery duty.
St. Thomas' days are numbered, however, as the factory is slated to close on August 31. When it goes, the Panther platform is likely to follow. So long, and thanks for all the fish memories.

NHTSA will investigate some Ford Fusion, Lincoln MKZ models for power steering issue
Tue, 07 Oct 2014The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is opening an investigation into the 2010-2012 Ford Fusion, Fusion Hybrid and Lincoln MKZ, the 2012 MKZ Hybrid and 2011 Mercury Milan because the agency has hundreds of complaints of electric power steering failure in these models.
According to NHTSA's data, it has received 508 complaints of the power steering allegedly suddenly malfunctioning and resulting in increased effort to turn the wheel. In four incidents, these failures resulted in loss of control and crashes. According to the reports, in some cases a power steering warning message came on as the fault occurred, and other times the system restored itself by turning off and then restarting the vehicle. NHTSA said it has also received further field report data from Ford, but that information hasn't been publicly released yet.
For the moment, there isn't a recall for this failure on these models. NHTSA is just investigating them to "assess the scope, frequency and safety consequences of the alleged defect," and the agency says an estimated 938,000 vehicles could potentially be affected.

If you've got a pulse in your wrist and a snapping brain cell in your head, chances are you wouldn't mind parking a Bugatti Veyron in your garage. But for most mere mortals, scrounging up the cash for a physics-bending piece of 16-cylinder glory would require all sorts of unpalatable tasks. Fortunately for those who want to look the part without having to participate in human trafficking, the kit car universe has stepped in to save the day. All you need is a 1999-2002 Mercury Cougar, a boat load of fiberglass and a little patience.
Oh, and $89,000.
