Ok, so if you're looking at this Cougar you must know at least a little about them. Well, this car is one I can almost guarentee you have never heard of. Impossible you say? Have you ever heard of a Golden Cougar? I do not mean the gold paint that was a color option but am instead refering to the emblem on the rear quarter post. I the time I have owned the car I have spent countless hours on the internet and at car shows and such trying to find anyone who has heard of one. And to this date I have not found a soul. I called Dearborn and have got a Marti report. Both of which can not tell me why it's called a Golden Cougar. I bought this car from an older lady in Nevada and drove it here to Colorado. I believe I am the second owner but can not prove this. She used to live in Colorado Springs which is about 1 1/2 hours south of Denver. This is where the car was sold by the original Mercury dealer. She drove the car back and forth to Nevada to visit her sister or cousin ( I can't remember which ). She then moved to Nevada and then would drive back and forth here to Colorado. Most of the miles are highway miles I was told. She was a very sweet lady. I bought the car with the intention of restoring it to it's original glory but have since decided to let someone else have a go at it. Just don't have the time I guess. Some time ago I made the fairly short trip down to Colo. Springs and went to the largest library I could find to see if I could find something on microfish, an advertizement of any kind about the car. After several hours of searching I did find the advertizement. With the help from the librian we got a copy of the newspaper add. Although it's not the best,it's the best we could do. And it does tell a bit about the car. The add states that the is a 1969 1/2. Quote; Again in 1969 as in the past, Bob Foss has gone to great lengths to bring to the people of Colorado Springs and Southern Colorado a very special value. These "Golden Cougars" represent a define savings in equiptment and options otherwise impossible plus the fact that you will be driving an original creation built especially for you.

eBay Find of the Day: Mercury Marauder two-door convertible
Wed, 31 Aug 2011Never underestimate what you'll see on eBay Motors. Take this unique creation, for example. Near as we can tell, it's the same 2002 Mercury Marauder that was modified into a two-door convertible by Ford for the 2002 Chicago Auto Show. According to the seller, this car still boasts its Eaton supercharger bolted to a 4.6-liter V8 engine, and at the time of its debut, the engine was rated at a lofty 335 horsepower. We have a hard time believing that the extra ponies would do much to offset the weight of the additional frame stiffeners and top mechanism on the car, however.
The vehicle is currently offered for sale by a dealer in Lansdale, Pennsylvania, though the listing is mum on how the convertible managed to make its way from Ford's Windy City show stand into the seller's inventory. If you like what you see, the machine can be yours for the princely sum of $75,000 or best offer. Head over to eBay Motors to take a gander at the listing.
Fitting Retirement: Grand Marquis last Mercury off the line
Wed, 05 Jan 2011The signs have come down and retail production ended back in October of 2010. Now, the very last Mercury model has rolled off the assembly line. This last Mercury somewhat fittingly takes the form of a Grand Marquis reporting for fleet duty. It was built at the St. Thomas plant in Ontario, Canada, which is the same facility that continues to produce the Ford Crown Victoria and Lincoln Town Car for fleet and livery duty.
St. Thomas' days are numbered, however, as the factory is slated to close on August 31. When it goes, the Panther platform is likely to follow. So long, and thanks for all the fish memories.

Jill Wagner retired as Mercury spokeswoman
Wed, 17 Nov 2010Jill Wagner has officially given up her crown as the queen of Mercury. With the Ford middle child on its way to the scrap heap, Wagner no longer has any automotive hardware to promote. Given her varied talents, we wouldn't be surprised to see her pick up where she left off with another automaker.
And here you thought you'd never be upset about Mercury's passing.
Thanks for the tip, Gregg!
