Up for sale is a great running and driving 1968 Pontiac Catalina Convertible that is close to being an incredible car with the new owners touch! It has a lot of potential without breaking the bank and can be driven anywhere. It has a 400 ci V-8, 4bbl carb, TH400 automatic transmission, power Top, Cold A/C that has been converted to 134A. We have owned this car since 2006 and has been driven to the Turkey Rod Run in Daytona Florida several years without problems. This is a great running driving car that has good manners, stops on a dime and very reliable.
The 400 ci engine and TH400 trans were both rebuilt in 2008. The front suspension components were rebuilt, replaced and all hard parts were blasted and painted as well as the front and rear brakes. This car has a fairly new exhaust system including lead pipe, muffler, and tailpipe. This car rolls on factory GM Pontiac Rally wheels that were restored and mounted on 215/70/15 Dunlop Signature Radials that have more than 90% tread life. The interior of the car is Ivy Gold and is in decent original condition. The carpet has been replaced recently as well as the correct dash knobs. There is no factory radio although a Sony AM/FM/CD player was installed under the dash. At the same time the seats were recovered in factory materials and color and a Billet Steering wheel was installed. The door panels are in fair condition please look at the pictures. The original black top does have a tear on top. this car has new power top rams, hoses, and correct power top switch and works great. All options and accesories work as they should. The Body of the car is very solid. As you can see in the pictures the front clip of the car and trunk lid has had body work done and painted the factory color. This was done 6 years ago by Color Concepts in Clearwater FL. The glass in the car is all factory and the windshield has a small crack between panes on the top passenger corner although all other glass is in great condition. A new front bumper was installed along with NOS front and rear lower valances. There is a ding in the top of the hood and normal wear along the other panels. The only rust in the car is in the rear quarters, above the rear wheel openings and starting on the rear tail panel. I have factory sheetmetal off another car for some of the repair panels. he floor panels, frame, and trunk pans are clean and rust free. Included with the car are numerous extra parts such as NOS tail light lenses, extra NOS Chrome pieces, new convertible top well, extra decklid, fender wells, dash parts, new roof rail weatherstrips, Etc. To sum things up this is a great solid piece of Detroit craftsmanship that can easily be brought back to perfection by someone with the time to finish. Official USPS Muscle Cars stamps coming to a mailbox near you
Thu, 21 Feb 2013As much as our digital lives have cut down on our trips to the post office, there are still times that sending "snail mail" is necessary. With us car lovers in mind and philately in their hearts, the good folks at the United States Postal Service will introduce a new stamp design called "Muscle Cars" starting on February 22.
Designed by artist Tom Fritz, the new collection of stamps consist of five classic muscle cars: 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona, 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS, 1967 Shelby GT-500, 1966 Pontiac GTO and 1970 Plymouth Hemi 'Cuda. In addition to just the stamps, the USPS is also commemorating the new series with plenty of collectable memorabilia. Previous car-related stamps include 50s Sporty Cars from 2005 and 50s Fins and Chrome from 2008.
GM doing fine at retaining Pontiac owners
Fri, 28 Oct 2011This isn't the first time we've reported positive news about General Motors retaining former Pontiac owners. Get a few more stories like this latest report from Edmund's Auto Observer, and it will mark an ongoing positive trend for GM. Edmunds.com crunched the numbers to see how well the General is hanging on to customers after shutting out the lights at Pontiac, and it found that nearly 40 percent of Pontiac owners stayed with a vehicle from a General Motors brand.
The numbers are a little lower than an earlier R.L. Polk & Company study, but Edmunds says General Motors is keeping more former Pontiac buyers than it has since 2007. Most are turning to vehicles from Chevrolet, especially during January and February of 2011, when GM incentivized Pontiac owners to stay under the umbrella. Those moves seem to have worked, and 28.1 percent of Pontiac owners trading up made the jump into a Bowtie.
Buyers that have gone elsewhere have largely stayed loyal to Domestic automakers, with Ford picking up the most conquests from Pontiac, with 9.4 percent switching. Toyota and Honda picked up 7.4 percent of the pool of former Pontiac drivers. The numbers are defying any predictions that Pontiac buyers would completely exit the General Motors fold, and have climbed up closer to parity with the retention figures of other GM brands from a 2009 low of only 16 percent retention.
David Hasselhoff's own KITT replica up for auction
Tue, 08 Apr 2014Depending on when and where you grew up, the name David Hasselhoff likely conjures up images of Knight Rider, Baywatch, pop singer, or possibly a washed-up TV actor, but one thing that can never be taken away from The Hoff is his connection to one of the greatest automotive icons in pop culture. The Knight Industries Two Thousand, usually shortened to simply KITT, was the real star of Knight Rider for many fans. Based on a Pontiac Firebird Trans Am, the car combined snarky quips for comedy relief and stunts to provide much of the show's actions. Now, Julien's Auctions is selling Hasselhoff's own replica as part of a larger sale of the actor's personal memorabilia collection.
This recreation is based on a 1986 Firebird and comes with all of the tech on the inside that now seems hilariously outdated, like the yoke steering wheel and plethora of buttons. The interior also thoughtfully includes a voice box with over 4,000 sound clips from the show. With a 5.0-liter V8 and an automatic transmission, performance is likely adequate and period correct. According to the listing, this car was created by fans and given to the Hoff. Sadly, the replica doesn't convert to Super Pursuit Mode like KITT could in later seasons, and we most associate KITT with conventional front-hinged doors to go with the power t-tops and ejector seats.
Bidding currently sits $27,500 with eight bids, since starting at $15,000. Julien's predicts it will sell for between $30,000 and $50,000. If there is some nostalgia for KITT in your heart, there is still plenty of time to bid.
