1964 Pontiac Bonneville Base 6.4l on 2040-cars
Quakertown, Pennsylvania, United States
1964 is the most desirable year for the Bonneville Convertible. Interior: Seats, door panels and kick panels all in good condition with the exception of one small rip in rear seat side panel. Dash is excellent. No splits or cracks in pad and paint is nice. Original AM radio in dash but does not work. Carpet not in good shape and was removed. Full floor is exposed (no surprises) and needs two patches under front seat. Power windows all work but power seat needs a motor. Body:Fenders, doors, hood and deck lid are solid and need only minor work to be made perfect. Quarter panels have been patched (forward of wheels) some time in the past and need done over. Chrome has some wear but in good overall condition. Convertible top is in excellent condition and rear window is clear. Top has new pump and motor assembly. Trunk is good, only needs two small patches in front corners. Driveline: Original 389 4bbl motor runs strong. All plugs are burning a nice light tan. Previous owner claims it was rebuilt once. Trans will slip slightly going from 2nd to 3rd gear but locks in nicely. Was told its only a band adjustment. Traction lock rear with no issues. Brake pedal is stiff, needs booster. Dual exhaust with flowmasters lets you hear that 60s muscle but is not too loud. Extra trim and chassis, body and drivetrain shop manuals go with the car. Also included is the original GM Protection Plan IDENT-O-PLATE. All lights signals, wipers, etc. are in working order. Veh. has current Pa. inspection. The car has been a great driver and draws a lot of attention wherever I go.

GM recalling 778,000 Cobalts and G5s, six deaths reported
Thu, 13 Feb 2014General Motors has announced that it will be recalling 778,562 compact cars after six people were killed in accidents, partially due to the airbags' failure to deploy. An issue with the ignition switch is causing the airbag issues, as well as causing the engine and other components to shut off without warning. The recall covers the 2005 to 2007 model year Chevrolet Cobalt and 2007 Pontiac G5. (Note that the Cobalt pictured above is a 2009 model.)
According to a report from Automotive News, a number of factors can cause the ignition to switch out of the run position, including weights on the key ring, rough or bumpy roads or other "jarring" events. Any of these situations could lead to some vehicle components not functioning properly.
There have been five fatal front-impact crashes that took the lives of six people, although as a GM spokesman noted, all five of the crashes happened off road and at high speed. In each of these cases, though, the lack of airbags wasn't the only lethal factor - alcohol and failure to wear a seat belt also played a role. Outside of the fatal accidents, there have been 17 other crashes where airbags didn't deploy. It's unclear if any of these crashes were caused by the engine shutting off.
GM issues four new recalls, 2.4 million cars affected
Tue, 20 May 2014General Motors has announced another set of recalls, covering some 2.42 million cars in the United States. For those keeping track, The General has now recalled over 15 million cars worldwide this year due to various issues.
Here's the breakdown for this most recent set of recalls:
1,339,355 - Buick Enclave, Chevrolet Traverse, GMC Acadia models from the 2009 to 2014 model years; Saturn Outlook models from the 2009 to 2010 model years
GM recalling another 2.7 million vehicles in five separate campaigns
Thu, 15 May 2014The recalls keep rolling in from General Motors, evidently keen to avoid repeating the mistakes of the ignition-switch debacle and clean house. This time they're all coming at once, with five separate recalls announced together covering approximately 2.7 million vehicles.
The largest of the five actions involves over 2.4 million units of the previous-generation Chevrolet Malibu and Malibu Maxx, Pontiac G6 and Saturn Aura in order to fix brake light wiring harness, which have been found to be susceptible to corrosion. The recall is separate from the 56k Aura sedans which GM recently recalled over faulty shift cables, not to mention the previous massive recall of 1.3 million vehicles - some of them the same models - but appears to have resulted from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration investigation that started with the G6 almost a year ago.
The second-largest campaign involves the 2014 Chevy Malibu, specifically those fitted with GM's 2.5-liter engine and stop/start system, approximately 140,000 examples of which has been found to have problematic brakes. The issue does not appear to be connected to the recall of 8k Malibu and Buick LaCrosse sedans (also involving brake woes) which we reported upon last week. Four crashes have been reported in such models, but GM admits it's not yet clear if the problem was a contributing factor in the accidents.
