1984 Pontiac Trans Am. Bought new at Blount Pontiac in Gainesville, Florida by a man in his early 30's. I have the ORIGINAL title showing where he bought the car on March 2nd 1984. 5.0 liter (305 cubic inch) V8 engine with the 700R4 automatic overdrive transmission, four wheel disc brakes. What is cool about this particular car, is the fact that it is a top of the line Trans Am, but it has very few options.. It has manual windows, locks, seats, mirrors, no rear window defogger etc. The radio is AM/FM only, not even a cassette player. The original spare tire and jack are still stored in their original location.
Since I have owned it, I bought four new Mastercraft MC-440 215/65R15 tires ($300), only had three mounted, one is in my shed. Car has had the spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributor cap, distributor rotor, air filter, fuel filter, and wiper blades replaced. I drove it from my home in Darien, Georgia to Brunswick and back three times before the engine started smoking and I believe I hear a bottom end knock (SEE VIDEOS). I need a car that will get me back forth
I have always loved the looks of these cars, ever since I was a young boy. My Sisters boyfriend had one brand new and I got to ride in it, and it was a very memorable experience for me. And there was always KITT from the TV series Knight Rider...
Here are a few cool things about the '84 T/A:
*It is one of the most aerodynamic Trans Am's ever built. The 1983 Daytona 500 Edition (Same body with same ground effects) had a coefficient of drag of only .029!! The only notable difference between that car, and this one are the "bowling ball" hubcaps on the wheels. This car is more aerodynamic than the newer (1993 and up) cars that despite having a more aggressively raked windshield, also had a ton more frontal area.
*This particular car, with its short list of options weighs only 3262 lbs, according to the information on the title.
*1984 was the last year for the Finned Type taillights. They were only used from 1982-1984, and the Trans Am models were dark tinted.
*Car has functional cold air intake system. Under full throttle, a solenoid opens a flap at the rear of the hoods cowl to allow cooler air to get to the intake.
*No t-tops = less squeaks, rattles, and wet bumpkis first thing in the morning.
*Instrument panel backlighting is red, just like the 1983 Daytona 500 Trans Am was, and later became a Pontiac trademark.

I have removed the air conditioning compressor, condenser, hoses, and the smog pump. I kept those pieces should the next owner decide to use them. My dream was to build a light, nimble car that could get 25 mpg +, handle like a Porsche, and run like a Cheetah on cocaine, but it is just not the right time for that to happen. (Hawks Third Gen makes LS engine conversion parts, and also have everything necessary to convert it to a 6-speed, just sayin').
All lights work (dome light bulb is MIA, on the list of things to get before the engine started smoking). Steering was tight and smooth. Car could use shocks and struts, as well as hood and hatch struts. There are only 150 miles on the three tires I have put on the car!

I also have a three piece rear window louver set that goes with it. The center section is damaged, but may be repairable, either way it is yours with the car.

This car is in REMARKABLY good condition to be an unrestored 30 year old car!! You can't find these in very good shape anymore. They don't have complicated computers running abs systems, or engine controls, and is very easy to work on and get parts for.

Car is located in the beautiful Coastal Georgia town of Darien (about one hour south of Savannah). Make a weekend get-away out of it, and spend some time at the beach while enjoying some fresh Georgia Shrimp and your favorite beverage!

Deposit of $250 due within 72 hours of auctions end. Balance due within 10 days of auctions end. Car is advertised locally.

GM recalling over 40,000 Chevy, Pontiac and Saturn models over fuel pump woes

Mon, 01 Oct 2012

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has issued a recall for a number of General Motors cars and crossovers bought or currently registered in the hot-climate states of Arkansas, Arizona, California, Nevada, Oklahoma and Texas. As many as 40,859 units consisting of the 2007 Chevrolet Equinox, Pontiac Torrent and Saturn Ion and the 2007-2009 Chevrolet Cobalt (shown) and its Pontiac G5 twin are being recalled for potential fuel leaks.
This recall is being issued due to potentially faulty fuel pump components that can crack and cause gasoline to leak from the return or supply ports and possibly cause a fire. NHTSA has not indicated how many fuel leaks or vehicle fires have been reported. As a fix, GM will replace the fuel pump modules on all affected vehicles free of charge. Since Pontiac and Saturn have been shuttered, owners will be able to go to another GM-brand dealership to have their vehicles repaired.
While the list of affected cars and crossovers varies by state and model year, if you own any of these models and live in Arizona, California, Florida, Nevada, Oklahoma or Texas, be sure to check the official notice below for more details.

Pontiac Firebird in latest Generation Gap scrap

Tue, 30 Sep 2014

Generation Gap is mining the Lingenfelter collection again this week to compare two very different interpretations of the Pontiac Firebird. An original 1968 example goes toe-to-toe with a 2010 Lingenfelter Trans Am to see whether the old man or the modern re-imagining takes the crown.
Being from the Lingenfelter collection, both cars are absolutely immaculate. The '68 packs a Pontiac 350-cubic-inch (5.7-liter) V8 with a claimed 320 horsepower and some classic, muscular style with a hood-mounted tach. Plus, it's painted in an understated shade of green that you don't usually see.
In the other corner is Lingenfelter's pumped-up take on the classic shape based on the modern Camaro, and this is just one of six concept versions ever made. It wears an eye-catching, vintage-inspired livery of blue with a white stripe package. Under its shaker hood is a 455-cubic-inch (7.5-liter) V8 with a reported 655 hp and 610 pound-feet of torque.

GM recalling 778,000 Cobalts and G5s, six deaths reported

Thu, 13 Feb 2014

General Motors has announced that it will be recalling 778,562 compact cars after six people were killed in accidents, partially due to the airbags' failure to deploy. An issue with the ignition switch is causing the airbag issues, as well as causing the engine and other components to shut off without warning. The recall covers the 2005 to 2007 model year Chevrolet Cobalt and 2007 Pontiac G5. (Note that the Cobalt pictured above is a 2009 model.)
According to a report from Automotive News, a number of factors can cause the ignition to switch out of the run position, including weights on the key ring, rough or bumpy roads or other "jarring" events. Any of these situations could lead to some vehicle components not functioning properly.
There have been five fatal front-impact crashes that took the lives of six people, although as a GM spokesman noted, all five of the crashes happened off road and at high speed. In each of these cases, though, the lack of airbags wasn't the only lethal factor - alcohol and failure to wear a seat belt also played a role. Outside of the fatal accidents, there have been 17 other crashes where airbags didn't deploy. It's unclear if any of these crashes were caused by the engine shutting off.
