1990 Saab 900 Spg Hatchback 2-door 2.0l on 2040-cars

Overall a very nice, all original 1990 SPG that does need some attention.  I'm the second owner purchased 6 years ago at 180k miles from a seller in DC area.  Its been an extremely reliable weekend driver- It starts in all weather-transmission seems very sound, turbo spools nicely and motor pulls strong.  It does have some condition issues and could use a tuneup. Antilock light came on a thousand miles ago but petal is firm and responsive, SRS is on and it's probably due a clutch job ( last at 160k) - The body is is in generally very good shape- it has minimal rust, the only area I'm aware of is a 3" patch on the lower inside face of drivers door but it has not gone through the metal ( see photo).   The drivers side window recently stopped working- i don't know if its the regulator or motor. The windshield glass has (2) dings from last owner,  Rear quarter SPG trim was knocked off by someone who hit my bumper- paint top coat got grazed in that area but metal panel is fine, and undamaged trim panel is included (see photo).  Interior is in good shape - headliner is excellent ( new at 150k) - Sunroof works great - leather is in very good condition except for fairly large hole in drivers seat back( see pic)- it has average dash cracks, carpet has some wear but new extra material is included from previous owner.  Paint is original and still shines respectably -but has gotten a couple small city scratches over the past several years. AC was converted at 150k by previous owner but is currently not working.  There is a Security system that I've never activated - manual and code included .  3 spoke alloy rims are in great shape with recent Dunlop Potenzas - Front 95% rear 85%.
Relatively recent work has included new battery(09) and alternator (08) - Tie rods and Ball Joints ( '10 )- New Exhaust (10') .   New turbo was replaced @150k by previous owner as well as many other parts.  All receipts since purchase are included.  Its gotten Mobil 1 every 3k miles.
Its been an excellent car and could be a great candidate for restoring or with modest effort an affordable, reliable, and completely classic car design.

Court extends Saab reorganization bid until end of November

Fri, 10 Oct 2014

Saab parent company National Electric Vehicle Sweden refuses to go down without a fight. After a recent trip to court, the company is emerging with an extension on its reorganization until November 29. According to Europe Online Magazine, there's also an appointed committee of creditors and union representatives to monitor NEVS' restructuring process.
NEVS still isn't giving up hope of saving itself, and the company claims there are has two potential strategies for getting back on its feet. The main plan is to "finalize the negotiations with the two Asian automotive manufacturers," according to a press release. Those firms still aren't identified, but Mahindra may be involved. According to Europe Online Magazine, one of the businesses is looking to take partial ownership of NEVS, and the other is considering some sort of cooperation with it.
If that plan fails, the second option is to take advantage of the factory and become a contract manufacturer.

The Saab 9-3 that never was finally shows up

Fri, 22 Feb 2013

Looking back on the life and [slow and painful] death of Saab, it's impossible to not stop and think of what might have been with the quirky Swedish automaker. As it turns out, SaabsUnited has decided to shed some light on what the company's future might have looked like, including some images and information that include full-scale mockups of the 9-3 Phoenix, which you see above.
In its waning years, Saab's lead designer Jason Castriota was working feverishly to deliver new products that built on the heritage of the brand while doing so at a lower cost and in a shorter time period than previous models. In the end, though, it sounds like the earliest that we could have seen any of these plans come to fruition was 2014. In addition to hatchback and convertible 9-3 variants, Castriota also created the Sonnett - a sporty-looking 2+2 that never made it past the design study phase.
Regardless of whether you're a diehard fan of the brand or if you were just pulling for the underdog, you'll want to head on over to SaabsUnited to check out a little more of what the future could have held for Saab.

GM recalling 524k vehicles over hood latches and toe link nuts

Fri, 03 Oct 2014

Just hours after confirming to Autoblog its intention to recall 97,540 vehicles in the US (117,651 in North America) for a possible manufacturing defect in the chassis control module of several models, General Motors is issuing two more campaigns that affect another 379,401 units in the US (524,384 in North America).
One campaign covers 290,107 US examples of the 2010-2015 Cadillac SRX and the 2011-2012 Saab 9-4X because the "rear toe link adjuster lock nuts" may be improperly torqued. If not up to spec, the toe adjuster link could separate and allow the wheel to shift while driving, making the handling unstable. GM says that it knows of three crashes and two injuries as a result of this problem. Dealers are inspecting the nuts and installing a new link assembly, if necessary. Autoblog first reported about this potential issue when it showed up on a list of recalls from Transport Canada.
The second recall is for 89,294 examples of the 2013-2015 Chevrolet Spark in the US manufactured from January 17, 2012, through July 29, 2014. According to GM, "corrosion can cause the secondary hood latch striker to stick in the open position." If this happens, and the primary latch also isn't engaged for some reason, the hood could fly open while driving. About 13,000 of these affected Sparks are at dealers and are being held until repaired. The fix requires replacing the hood striker. GM isn't aware of crashes, injuries or fatalities caused by this problem.
