Stock, One Family, Ca Car, Midnight Blue on 2040-cars

Year:1970 Mileage:78000
Location:

Los Angeles, California, United States

Again, this is a 1970 Midnight blue Karmann Ghia purchase new from Cotton Goff VW in Buena Park CA in May 1970 by a relative so its been in the same family for over 44 years - its always been garaged and maintained.

The body is in excellent shape no dents or accidents that I know of - minor scratches and some paint flaws - one small rust spot by front passenger side front window and I have included a photo - new cream interior with grey carpeting, carburetor was just rebuilt about 4 months ago - the car starts right up on the first try.

The Good - all electronics works - clock, speedometer, windshield wipers, lights, emergency flashers, stock AM radio, horn, heater, turn signals, dome light, gas tank cover release works etc, newer black headliner possibly from about 1985 no tears or rips or saging its black in color. stock rims, tires have good tread life on them.

The not so good - minor paint flaws, rear light reflector on drivers side fell off - the part is about $35 so I will try and replace that asap, the windshield washer water tank etc doesn't work but it all there, rear engine compartment doesn't lock any longer but closes fine, drivers window is a bit hard to roll down but it does go up and down not sure why? the hood release works from inside the glove box but has came loose from the box

I just got back from driving the Ghia from Los Angeles all the way to San Francisco via Hwy 1 - it ran flawless and drove back the 5fwy at about 70 miles an hour on the way home - got about 30 miles to the gallon

Always a CA car - serviced by Auto Meister in Manhattan Beach, CA

Engine was rebuilt along with transmission about 75k miles ago - the car has roughly 178,000 miles on it but I cant be certain - Runs Great!

Volkswagen planning Up! hybrid model using XL1 powertrain

Sun, 24 Feb 2013

Even though we've finally gotten a look at the production version of the 261-mile per gallon Volkswagen XL1, this aero-shaped two-seater was never intended for high-volume sales. Fortunately, it sounds like the same isn't true for the car's diesel plug-in hybrid powertrain, which, according to a report from AutoCar, could make its way under the hood of another Volkswagen model: the Up! minicar (shown above).
A potential Up! Hybrid would likely be able to return some of the same impressive fuel economy numbers as the XL1, but it would be a more realistic car with more passenger space and greater production capacity. The hand-built XL1 will use a 47-horsepower, two-cylinder TDI engine paired to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, and the 27-hp electric motor and lithium-ion battery helps deliver an all-electric driving range of 31 miles.
One of the core pillars of the XL1's design is its lightweight construction with a 1752-pound curb weight, which makes the Up! a perfect recipient for using this powertrain since it weighs just 300 pounds more. The report says that the Up! Hybrid is still in the developmental phase, so a production version isn't expected for at least another 18 months.

Volkswagen Multivan Alltrack Concept takes the luxury van life off road

Wed, 05 Mar 2014

Volkswagen dug into its commercial vehicle fleet for its latest Geneva Motor Show concept, blending the versatile body of the T5 MultiVan with a luxuriously appointed interior, 4Motion all-wheel drive and a thrifty diesel powertrain.
That 177-horsepower diesel engine routes its power to the AWD system through a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. Based on that alone, we'd expect the Multivan Alltrack's behind-the-wheel experience to be somewhat familiar. That all-wheel-drive system and van body contribute to the 21-degree approach and 15-degree departure angles of this soft-roading MultiVan.
What wouldn't be familiar is its exquisite cabin. Volkswagen opted for a nautical theme for the concept's interior, featuring grey-blue leather seats from Poltrona Frau and a floor finished in real wood. The dark wood trim can also be found throughout the interior, running below the windows and on the dash.

Volkswagen says goodbye to Eos, Routan in 2015 updates

Wed, 23 Jul 2014

Usually automakers announce changes to their lineup individually on a vehicle-by-vehicle basis, but sometimes it all comes at once - especially when the changes are ones we either expected or might not otherwise notice. That's the path Volkswagen has gone with changes to its US lineup for 2015.
The biggest change is what we already knew: that the new Golf arrives for the 2015 model year, bringing with it the new GTI, Golf R, e-Golf and Golf SportWagen (to replace the previous Jetta wagon). But there are some new details as well.
For starters, Volkswagen has finally confirmed that both the Eos and the Routan - both long rumored to be on their way out - will be exiting this year. The Eos hardtop convertible, pictured above, will linger for one last year, its Sport trim replaced by a new Final Edition with 18-inch wheels, two-tone leather interior and enhanced equipment.
