Car And Driver says...

The Tiguan offers a German alternative in a segment full of entries from the U.S. and Asia. Basically a Golf on stilts, the Tiguan features a single engine—a 2.0-liter turbo four—and trim levels ranging from the base S with a six-speed manual to the sporty R-Line with a six-speed automatic. Front-wheel drive is standard; all-wheel drive is optional. We like the handling, brakes and steering, but wish we could get VW’s turbo-diesel and a manual. Also, the design is getting a bit old

Edmunds says...

Most folks buy a crossover SUV for an important measure of practicality, even a compact one like the 2013 Volkswagen Tiguan. For example, your priorities might call for a comfortable and fuel-efficient daily driver, but many buyers also want room for bikes and backpacks, a Marshall stack and a PA, or even just a Great Dane and a month's worth of its food. Whatever the need, the Tiguan distinguishes itself from other small crossover SUVs with an upscale interior and sophisticated driving dynamics.

Kelley Blue Book? says...

Get past the awkward name and you'll find the 2014 Volkswagen Tiguan a rather appealing compact crossover SUV. Smaller than the CR-V, the Tiguan zips in and out of traffic with ease, and its 200-horsepower turbocharged engine comes standard. Capable of venturing lightly off-road, the Tiguan should appeal to those with a sense of adventure while its good fuel economy and fun-to-drive attitude make it a favorite of enthusiast drivers whose needs have grown. If the Tiguan has an Achilles' heel, however, it can be found on the window sticker. With better-equipped models like the Honda CR-V EX, Subaru Forester 2.5 Premium and the new Nissan Rogue SV all priced at or below the base Tiguan S, VW clearly has an affordability problem.

What’s special about this Beepi car

Beepi seller Hiren was really enjoying his Tiguan, until he looked in the backseat and realized his kids had to sit on top of the luggage to fit! Time for a bigger car, thought Hiren. Happily, we are here to present you with this lovely 2013 Tiguan with only 12,000 miles. This car handles like a champ, automatically transferring power between the wheels in changing traction conditions, and give you a great feel for the road.

The deep black metallic paint shimmers like the night sky, allowing you to streak down the highway in style. Beepi inspector Nick found that the car looked and felt like new, inside and out. We are confident that this small SUV will make someone very happy, very soon.

Dimples

dim·ple [’dimpel/]: a small depression in the flesh, either one that exists permanently or one that
forms in the cheeks when one smiles.

Many Beepi cars have dimples, too. They are small, natural, form over the course of a car’s life,
and add character.

We love our car’s dimples, but want to make sure you know about all of them first before
considering purchase.

Take a look.

Updated J.D. Power APEAL study shines on VW Group, Chevy

Wed, 24 Jul 2013

J.D. Power has just revealed the results of its 2013 APEAL Study, which looks at which brands have the most appealing cars based on sales figures, dealer inventory, brand loyalty, transaction and trade-in prices. The study was revamped for 2013, and places a larger focus on the new tech and infotainment options available to customers. All told, study participants gauged their vehicles on 77 different attributes, delivering a score out of a 1,000 points.
The Volkswagen Group had the greatest success of any corporation, topping the APEAL rankings with the Audi Allroad, Porsche Boxster, Porsche Cayenne, VW GTI and Passat. Chevrolet had the highest number of awards for a single brand, though, with the Avalanche, Sonic and Volt all taking home a prize.
The best brand overall was Porsche, which scored 884 out of a possible 1,000 points. The top Japanese brand was Lexus with a score of 847, while the top American brand was Cadillac, at 841. The best mainstream brand was Ram, which received a very respectable 817. The industry average for this year's study was 795, with 16 brands, all of which were mainstream, falling below the average.

Former Porsche CEO Wiedeking indicted over VW takeover bid

Thu, 20 Dec 2012

Do you recall the failed efforts by Porsche to take over Volkswagen? According to a Bloomberg report, former Porsche CEO Wendelin Wiedeking (above) and ex-CFO Holger Haerter have finally been charged with market manipulation over the exercising of options as part of the German sportscar manufacturer's ill-fated attempt to take over the much larger VW. That failed bid eventually resulted in the reverse coming true - VW swallowing Porsche.
The charges leveled by Stuttgart prosecutors come after a three-year investigation centered around allegations that Porsche execs made a concerted effort to increase the company's share in VW to 75 percent in preparation for a hostile takeover. Porsche had previously told its investors on at least five occasions that it had no intention to buy VW.
Portions of the investigation have subsided, according to prosecutors, citing an inability to prove certain improprieties with a "necessary degree of certainty." The number of charges is down to 5 from a previous 14 counts regarding "information-based market manipulation."

An inside look at VW's new California R&D center

Thu, 18 Oct 2012

Less than two months ago, the Volkswagen Group opened a new facility in Oxnard, California (about an hour's drive west of Los Angeles). The $27 million investment, touted as Test Center California (TCC), serves as a research and development lab testing emissions for all brands under Volkswagen's umbrella, including its newest member, Porsche. While still not fully operational, we toured the new 64,000-square-foot building last week and had a first-hand opportunity to see just how much work is involved testing engines and meeting increasingly stringent government emissions standards.
Replacing a similar facility established in 1990 in Westlake Village (about 20-minutes east of the new location), our guide explained how Oxnard was chosen for its temperate climate, varied regional terrain for test drives and low altitude. (The area is only a few feet above sea level - a critical parameter when instrument testing emissions.) The new facility is capable of analyzing hundreds of vehicles, prototypes and customer-owned vehicles, annually.
Most interesting to us was the huge stainless steel climate chamber, with a massive four-wheel dynamometer that allows VW to test running vehicles in both scorching desert and freezing climates without ever leaving the building (an Audi Q7 was running in place during our visit). We were also mesmerized by the countless storage tanks and intricate plumbing of chemicals, stored in both liquid and gas states, needed to perform the variety of tests. Lastly, we took a look at Bugatti's service center on the west coast, located completely within the new center. While there were no supercars on site, the facility is equipped with plenty of spare forged wheels (mounted with expensive Michelin PAX tires) and a Veyron-specific repair jig that allows the vehicle to be completely disassembled, if needed. It is a shame that the facility, which set off all of our automotive geek alerts, is closed to the public.
