This is the only car  that was in our family the longest out of any automobile we owned. That is how much we loved this little bug. It was always a fast little car even though it never had a modified engine in it.

This California VW has not been used since my father in law passed away. He was from Germany and actually got us started with the few Bugs we owned.

Retirement is here now and we have to scale back. I'd love to bring it back to tip top shape, but I can't work on cars any longer and so who have to hope there is someone else out there that can give it the love it deserves.

The body is in good shape for a 48 year old car that has not been restored. The front hood was a replacement and that was repaired, but it didn't last. I believe I still have some paint left too for it and I'll give it to the buyer along with the extra goodies that are in the pictures.

Please examine the photos. You could repaint the car if you wished to or buff it out and use it as is.

The car is currently not running because fuel is not getting to the carb. I believe from sitting the hoses must have dried out and cracked. The motor cranks good though. The emergency brake inside got disengaged but I'm sure it can be fixed as this is a pretty common thing. From memory I think  the last time I drove the car it was pulling to the left. I haven't opened the sunroof in 10 years so I can't tell you if it works or not. All of this will make you a great story how you brought this ol' buggy back to life so I'll leave the fixin' up to you.

If you have any questions about this 65 Bug, please ask before you bid. I want to be upfront about anything you need to know and will do my best to fill in any blanks. Just want the car to go to a good home and not get hacked up.

Note: The car was properly converted from 6 to 12 volt. I purchased and had installed the window rubber with the trim on it since we liked the original look. We also had pop out rear windows installed as well.

*This car is for sale locally. We reserve the right to cancel the auction early.

Hope you get this friendly little VW.....

Happy Bidding!

Witness this insane 736-hp VW Golf immolate its front tires

Mon, 11 Mar 2013

There's torque steer and then there's what we'll from now on dub "The Boba," as in Boba Kettler. The German tuner has a way with the Volkswagen Golf, and the MkI example you see above has been touched with 736 horsepower - that's right, 96 more ponies than a new SRT Viper, all trying to get to ground through those two front wheels.
The 2.0-liter, 16-valve engine has an 8,800 rpm redline and is aided by a Garrett GTX3582R turbocharger shoving 50 psi through the internals. Other upgrades include a new ECU (natch) and a six-speed 'box among other treats. The rubber is Toyo R888s - street-legal competition tires. The result is enough smoke for three Chinese New Years when the lights go green. Indeed, the standing start isn't its forte, but it can apparently get from 62 miles per hour to 124 mph in five seconds.
Watch it go in the video below. And know that this isn't even Boba's best work; he's got a 900-hp MkII Golf that'll do 0-62 mph in 2.3 seconds.

World Car Of The Year down to its final four

Wed, 13 Mar 2013

Judges for the World Car of the Year Award have narrowed down the finalists to just four vehicles. Out of a total of 42 entries, only the Mercedes-Benz A-Class, Porsche Boxster/Cayman, Scion FR-S/Subaru BRZ/Toyota GT-86 and Volkswagen Golf remain standing. For Volkswagen, this marks the second consecutive year the company has had an entry among the finalists, and the fourth time since 2009. In order to qualify, a vehicle must be on sale on two continents during the span of time between January 1, 2013 and May 30, 2013. A panel of 66 journalists from 23 countries then vote on the finalists.
Three vehicles have made the cut for the last round of voting on the 2013 World Performance Car as well, with the Cayman/Boxster and FR-S/BRZ/GT-86 running against the Ferrari F12 Berlinetta. Meanwhile, the Renault Zoe, Tesla Model S and Volvo V60 Plug-In Hybrid are duking it out for the World Green Car Award. Finally, the World Car Design of the Year Award is up for grabs between the Aston Martin Vanquish, Jaguar F-Type, and the Mazda6. Check out the full press release below. Overall winners will be presented at the 2013 New York Auto Show.

2013 Volkswagen Beetle Turbo Convertible

Wed, 10 Apr 2013

Less Flower, More Power
Pardon our political incorrectness for a moment, but the Volkswagen New Beetle was, undeniably, a "chick car." There was almost nothing that the New Beetle offered to enthusiasts (of either gender), and by the end of its run, VW had even stripped all of the exciting engines from the car's lineup. Looking to resurrect some of the excitement behind the Beetle, the third generation of the iconic car ditched the cuteness when the coupe debuted for 2012, and now the 2013 Volkswagen Beetle Convertible aims to show how much fun drivers can have without a top.
Celebrating almost six and a half decades of the Beetle convertible, Volkswagen is offering a trio of distinct special editions that celebrate three of the car's most popular decades (the '50s, '60s and '70s), but as one of the unofficial cars of the 1960s, it would almost be a crime not to test this version, right? Besides, this is also the only special edition to get the turbocharged engine. While our first drive of the 2013 Beetle Convertible was in the fuel-miser TDI variation, our two-week romp in the 2013 Beetle Convertible '60s Edition came just as peak convertible weather was kicking off down in Florida.
