This is it. Your chance to own a Ferrari Spider. Something so unique and rare that heads will turn every time you go out. Unusual in black on black, this 1994 348 Spider is one of only 390 spiders imported to the U.S. and one of a handful still on the road. Even more unusual is the Spider designation on the back of the car, a precious handful sport this particular badge and you will be hard pressed to find another. The 512TR wheels by themselves routinely sell for over $5,000, I bought the 360 wheels since I'm personally not a big fan of chromed wheels but they do fit the car.garaged in temperature and humidity controlled environmentRare included original red cover with Cavellinos You won't find a better sorted 348 Spider than this one. You won't look back as you are driving on curvy roads on a nice day with the top down. You won't remember life before the 348 Spider as the growl of the engine ignites a passion inside of you for the love of driving and the love that only a Ferrari can inspire. Sunday morning, 7:30. Late September in Minnesota. It is cool at 65 degrees. Crisp and quiet. Sun beaming through the leaves tinging everything it touches with gold. I twist the key of my 348 Spider just to Aux to start the electronics, the familiar fuel pump noise breaking the silence. I twist the key again and the engine roars to life, filling the air with the unique sound that typifies a Ferrari. Slowly I back out of the garage and down the driveway letting the engine oil warm up in the cool fall air. Top down, I ease onto the main drag and work my way gently through the gears waiting to open it up on the winding roads ahead. I turn through a quiet neighborhood, the engine noise buffeting off of houses and trees. I realize how fast I am already going and back off the throttle. Prrutt, prrutt, prrutt the engine reports, wanting to go faster rather than slower. The winding road is just ahead. The entrance haloed by old growth oak and maple trees, their leaves vivid red, orange and yellow. The sun making each leaf glow as if lit from within. The dried leaves on the road crunch as I turn onto the road and then let the 348 loose. The car grabs the road beneath its wheels like it is hungry, digging in, greedily grabbing at pavement. The noise, vibration and the feel of wind on my neck make me feel alive and I cannot help but laugh as I let the revs go higher before shifting. Second, third, fourth, fifth gear, I am flying now. Leaves kicking up a shower behind me. A lake sparkles in the morning sun to my right as sleepy homeowners wake to my thunder. Prrutt, prrutt, prrutt, I slow to take a sharp curve. Brake in a straight line, accelerate through the curve. The car again grabbing pavement, holding the curve flat, g forces pressing my into the seat as I accelerate through the corner to the apex and then plunge down a short hill. The car is alive now. Willing me to give it more throttle, go faster. Who needs a radio when you have this kind of glorious noise echoing through the narrow passage between heavy trees, their blanket of leaves acting as a buffer to keep the noise close to me as I truly appreciate it. Downhill to another curve, downshift, slight brake, here’s the corner, a little more throttle as I swing easily right and onto another straight patch of road. The car follows my every movement as if it knows where I want to go and how fast. I glance at the speedometer, I am doing errr.. the speed limit but it may as well be 100. The curves and undulations in the road remind me of some of the tighter race tracks and I am out in front.

1957 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa sells for record $39.8 million

Tue, 04 Feb 2014

This might not come as a shock, but ultra-rare vintage cars are only going to get more expensive as time rolls on, particularly if there's a prancing horse on the car's nose. For example, in 2011, a Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa sold for $16.39 million. In February 2012, a 1964 250 GTO sold for nearly $32 million. Later that year, a 1962 250 GTO sold for $35 million. It was the most expensive car ever sold, making last year's 275 GTB/4 NART Spider and its $27.5-million auction price seem like a drop in the platinum-lined bucket. Now, there's been another high-dollar Ferrari sale.
An unrestored, 1957 250 Testa Rossa was reportedly sold for over $39 million, making it the most expensive car ever sold in the United Kingdom. Just for perspective, $39 million is about 28 LaFerraris or roughly 128 F12 Berlinettas. It's not the most expensive car ever sold, but it still represents a huge sum of money for a classic car. Part of the reason for chassis number 0704 - the car pictured above is 0714, which sold for a mere $12.2 million in 2009 - being sold for so much is down to its excellent provenance.
It made its race debut at the 1957 24 Hours of Le Mans, although it failed to finish. Phil Hill and Peter Collins racked up wins with this exact car in Buenos Aires and Sebring, according to the folks at Hemmings. Combining race wins by a former Formula One World Champion with an unrestored example of an extremely rare car (one of just 34 250 Testa Rossas ever built) makes its monumental sale price almost seem reasonable.

LaFerrari 3D model adds depth to Maranello's new supercar

Sat, 06 Apr 2013

At its recent Geneva Motor Show unveiling, we couldn't help but spend a good long time gawking at the new LaFerrari supercar. It isn't just that it's the newest top-line Ferrari, or even that it picks up where the Enzo left off - it's just that there's so much to look at, from the ductwork in its long nose to the delicate artistry of its sideview mirrors. There's so much aerodynamic wizardry in play on every surface that you just want to pick it up in your hand and look underneath to take a closer look every which way - even underneath.
Sadly that's not possible, but we may just have the next best thing. Autoblog reader Giorgio has come up with this clever interactive 3D model of the LaFerrari, and we think it's neat enough that you might want to take a look - check it out by scrolling below. And don't forget - we love featuring what our car-crazed readers are up to, whether here or on our Facebook page, so keep those tips coming.

Hennessey twin-turbo Ferrari 458 boasts 738 hp, 0-60 in 2.8 seconds

Wed, 14 Aug 2013

Hennessey Performance Engineering, hot off the heels of its Bugatti Veyron-crushing Venom GT, set its sights on modifying one of the finer Ferrari models. The resulting HPE700 Twin Turbo 458 is a badder, faster 458 Italia with a twin-turbo upgrade that adds 168 horsepower to the already potent 4.5-liter V8. That's 738 hp, which, paired with the extra 134 pound-feet of torque, for a total of 532 lb-ft, is good for a 2.8-second 0-60 run.
Low-inertia ball-bearing turbochargers are used to boost the power, and an air-to-water intercooler makes sure the air surging into the combustion chambers is as cool and dense as possible. Twin wastegates and blow-off valves relieve extra boost pressure and, in addition to a new stainless-steel exhaust system, add some new noises to the 458's soundtrack. The V8 is boosted to a relatively mild 7 psi maximum and maintains 6 psi on its way up to redline. A reflash of the engine control unit brings the package together. HPE is confident enough about its wares that the $59,995 upgrade also comes with a one-year/12,000-mile warranty.
The HPE700 Twin Turbo 458 is set to be unveiled on Friday at the Concorso Italiano located at the Laguna Seca Golf Ranch, which is part of California's Monterey Car Week festivities. It also can be viewed on Saturday in the paddock at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca for the Monterey Historics Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion vintage car races. Check out the press release below for the full details, as well as a video of the Ferrari in action.
