1974 Lotus Europa Special British Europe Twin Cam 5 Speed Spyder Chassis on 2040-cars

Year:1974 Mileage:27448
Location:

Granite Falls, Washington, United States

Granite Falls, Washington, United States

This is a 1974 Lotus Europa Special. It is running and driving and is currently licensed.

The chassis is in excellent condition with no rust or signs of damage or repair. It has a very desirable Spyder chassis tube frame made in England and designed as a stiffer and improved back bone frame for the Europa (the Spyder chassis cost $4000 to buy today). The body has some obvious modifications. I'm sure these won't appeal to everybody but the fender flares and air intake scoops are extremely well installed. These where probably done in the 1980's. The body is in generally very good condition with some of the usual Lotus cosmetic stress cracks in the fiberglass gel coat. The engine cover has a couple pretty good cracks that will need repair. It looks as though the cover was forced open too far. Also the large air dam on the front of the car has a crack in it. The paint is pretty dull and faded.

The glass is all in great condition. The trim is missing from around the front windscreen. The chrome bumpers are nice.

The Interior is in pretty decent condition. Both seats are nice. It has working non-original lap seat belts. The headliner will need to be replaced. The wood dash has some large bubbles and cracks in it but still overall looks okay. All the instruments work great. The electrics are in very good condition. Lights, wipers. turn signals, horn etc all work. The heat/defrost is currently bi-passed although the heater parts are all still present under the dash. The power windows both work great.

Mechanically the car is in very good condition. It has great oil pressure. It is very stock and still including its federal emissions equipment. It starts easy and idles smooth. It runs strong with very good power. The clutch works excellent. It has the very desirable 5 speed gearbox that works great. The shift linkage takes a bit of getting used too and could probably be improved (a common Europa failing).  The brakes work excellent. There is a minor exhaust leak at the manifold to head pipe gasket.  The steering is excellent. It has Spax adjustable shocks on all four wheels with adjustable height spring perches at the rear.

The Yokohama Advan P215/50 R13 tyres look like new but the car sat for a long time without being driven and the tyres feel a bit out of round and are causing minor shaking and vibration.
It does not come with a spare wheel/tyre. Both door seals are splitting apart and will need replacement.

It has a clear Washington state title and is currently licensed as a collector vehicle.

You can jump in and drive this car straight away but it has been sitting for quite a long time and you should expect it will need attention here and there.
I also have another Europa Twin cam to sell. It's a partially restored project car with a much more stock body. If someone was interested we could make a package deal for both. Please contact me if you want more information on that car.

Buyer is responsible for shipping costs and arrangements.
The Lotus can be viewed by appointment in Granite Falls, WA (near Seattle).
I highly recommend and encourage a personal inspection if possible.
Must be picked up within 30 days.

Feel free to ask any questions.

Please watch the video of this Europa in action:

Lotus C-01 motorcycle rumored to get 200-hp V-twin engine

Sun, 12 Jan 2014

Back in June, Lotus announced it was getting into the motorcycle business. Or, we should say, Kodewa and the Holzer Group are getting into the motorcycle business, and have acquired the rights to use the Lotus name. One way or another, we're now receiving word on some of the specs we can expect from the prototype dubbed C-01.
The Lotus motorcycle is being designed by Daniel Simon, the automotive futurist who has penned, among other things, the light-cycles for Tron: Legacy and the livery on the LMP2 racer Kodewa also fields under the Lotus name. So you know it's going to look pretty awesome, but what will make it go?
According to Visor Down, the C-01 is being tested with a V-twin engine sourced from an undisclosed supplier that produces 170 horsepower in stock trim but has been tuned to produce nearly 200 hp in Lotus trim. A pair of prototypes - one with carbon-fiber bodywork and one without - have already undergone several thousand kilometers of testing, and are said to be handling "very well."

Lotus Motorcycles C-01 now 'ready for the road'

Thu, 20 Feb 2014

When we first laid eyes on leaked images of the Lotus Motorcycles C-01, we wondered if its laid-back, sport cruiser shape was really appropriate for a motorcycle bearing any connection with Colin Chapman and the company's famous "add lightness" mantra. We've now seen official pictures of the bike in multiple color schemes, including classic black and gold, British racing green and even a variant that resembles Martini livery, and while we think it looks pretty cool, our opinion hasn't really changed.
Perhaps we shouldn't be surprised that the C-01 isn't an embodiment of the Lotus ethos, as the company that intends to build it isn't really Lotus at all, its builders - German racing firm Kodewa and tuner Holzer Group - merely having licensed the name of the British sportscar maker. It was designed by Daniel Simon, who once worked for Volkswagen and consulted for Bugatti and is the man credited with creating the reborn Tron Light Cycles. Still, looking past its questionable heritage, the C-01 looks pretty darn awesome, and there are some interesting bits that have us looking forward to the production version that's reportedly due within the next two months.
As expected, power comes in at 200 horsepower, courtesy of a modified version of KTM's 1,195-cc V-twin engine. The chassis is made up of steel, titanium and carbon fiber, with a seat height of about 28 inches. Its wheelbase, at about 65 inches, is a full 10 inches longer than a real street-legal superbike, and its front end is raked way out in front with a 19-inch wheel. Those dimensions mean we shouldn't expect much racetrack prowess, unless its rider is only planning on going in a straight line. Indeed, with a claimed dry weight of under 400 pounds, the Lotus Motorcycles C-01 ought to be mighty quick down the quarter mile.

Lotus Evora 'Sports Racer' is oddly named and fully loaded

Thu, 20 Dec 2012

Lotus has just announced a new Evora 'Sports Racer' model that is, well, frankly not much more sporty or racy than the standard Evora or Evora S. Instead, the British company calls the Sports Racer a "visually enhanced and optimized version" of both the Evora and supercharged Evora S. To unpack that a little: The new trim will get a new set of unique exterior colors and a revised interior treatment, and it's fully decked out with options.
The 'Sports Racer' will be available in the buyer's choice of Carbon Grey, Nightfall Blue and the Ardent Red that you see in the image above (the only image we've seen of the car so far). Gloss black accents set the model apart and can be seen on the roof, forged wheels, mirrors and rear badges. Inside, one may choose between black-leather sports seats with red piping and stitching, or a Venom Red leather interior with black piping and stitching. How naughty.
In terms of tech, the 'Sports Racer' gets Lotus' Sports Pack and its remapped throttle response, higher redline, more powerful cross-drilled brakes and a more aggressively programmed Dynamic Performance Management system. The stereo system is also upgraded from the basic Evora, with a DVD player and seven-inch touchscreen display thrown in for good measure.
