Great little truck has been my daily driver until new truck arrived.  1988.5, so it has the post-Consumer Reports changes.  Great 1.3l carbureted engine, 5 speed, 4x4 with manual hubs.  Zippy driver, 24-6 mpg, holds more than it looks like it will.  This was a Kentucky truck until 2011.

Spartan interior.  Heat works.  Wipers work, doors lock and open, etc.  In past six months have put in new starter, new GM alternator, new battery cables, new front rotors and pads.  Has Hella Vision Plus headlights that take modern replaceable bulbs -- very bright!  Put in airbox from a Dodge with magnum engine.  It isn't pretty but it breathes.

This was an amateur restoration by the previous owner to a decent standard.  Paint shines.  Please see the pics, this is a great 10-footer but some rust does show bubbling.  Frame is sound.  Door hinges are cut for easy door removal.  Lots of recent door and window seals on it, but ready for a new windshield seal.  Amateur tint has scratches, residue from tint on the windshield.  Original rear view mirror and sun visors are not present, previous owner put in a wide view mirror.

Includes the fold and tumble seat that is not mounted, and a brand new black carpet kit.  Also have a new set of floor plugs for the drain holes.

Excellent city car, great 4 wheeler, gets plenty of attention.  Not perfect, not a honda civic, not a Mercedes G-wagen, but an honest little Samurai.  Happy to work with your shipper.  Yes, I would drive it cross-country tomorrow, but I don't mind spartan rides or challenges that pop up.  You might not want to do so.

The accident on the autocheck was before I bought it, someone hit the back end at low speed, I've put a new stock bumper on it since then.  I don't see any damage underneath.

This is a 26-year old vehicle sold as is.

Land-speed racer Bill Warner dies from motorcycle crash at 285 MPH

Mon, 15 Jul 2013

Motorcycle land-speed record holder Bill Warner died yesterday after crashing during an attempt at setting another record. The 44-year-old was clocked at 285 miles per hour on the runway of a former air base in northern Maine, before he lost control of his modified Suzuki Hayabusa motorcycle and veered off the runway.
It is not known what speed he was traveling when things started to go wrong and unclear what caused the crash, which happened shortly before 10:00 AM. Warner's crew suspect there were mechanical difficulties on his last run, in addition to a slight breeze, according to the video news report. Warner was conscious and able to speak after the crash but died an hour and 15 minutes later at a hospital in Caribou. The event and runway were closed for the rest of the day as police investigated the incident.
Warner was participating in "The Maine Event" at Loring Air Force Base in an attempt to reach 300 mph in one mile. Warner's best land-speed record, set in 2011, was 311.945 mph in 1.5 miles on the same runway, according to the Loring Timing Association, a record that still stands today for open-cockpit motorcycles. After that run, Warner said the scariest part was stopping the bike before the end of the runway. Be sure to check out the video news report after the jump.

Ugly Moto makes beautiful motorcycle art [w/video]

Thu, 08 May 2014

Ugly Moto is a horrible name for a company that makes such wonderful motorcycle art. The creation of artist Francis Ooi, the company's illustrations focus on some of the iconic racing bikes of the 1960s and 1970s.
The artwork has an elegant simplicity that really makes it pop. It would fit just about anywhere from a home office to the bedroom of a young gearhead. Ooi has completed six illustrations so far covering classic cycles from Honda, Ducati, Yamaha and even Harley-Davidson. According to his site, the Suzuki RGB500 ridden by Barry Sheene will be the next one released. All of the prints are priced at $65 and are limited to 100 copies. They are all about 16.53 inches by 23.58 inches in size.
According to his website, these prints are just a hobby for Ooi and his real career is as the creative director at an ad agency. He creates the illustrations on his Mac, and he estimates that each design with about 800 components and layers takes about a month to complete. You can get idea of the process involved in the time-lapse video below.

Suzuki recalling 200K crossovers over airbag woes

Mon, 16 Sep 2013

Suzuki may not be selling any new cars in the US anymore, but there are still plenty of them on American roads. Nearly 200,000 of those will need to be taken off said roads - for a little while, at least.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has issued a recall for 2006-2011 Suzuki Grand Vitara SUVs and 2007-2011 SX4 crossovers due to a faulty airbag sensor. The issue apparently results from the front passenger-side floor mat causing the Occupant Classification System (OCS) sensor to malfunction over time, so whether there's a kid or an adult in the front seat, the airbag could deploy in the event of a crash.
As a result, Suzuki Motor of America is calling in 193,936 vehicles to replace the front passenger-seat cushion assembly. That's a whole lot of cars to recall, but it comes as no big surprise. Owners can expect to be notified in October. Full details in the recall announcement below.
