This auction is for a used 2001 Lotus Esprit. I purchased this out of California after it had an accident and performed the repairs myself. I got it in 2007 with 17,679 miles. I replaced the front bumper, grille, passenger headlight pod, the passenger front wheel fender extension, some of the radiator ducting pieces. While I had the car apart, I sent the radiator out for improvements and had it re-cored with a 3 row copper tubes (versus the 2 row that was standard). I upgraded the oil coolers to aircraft oil coolers that I purchased from Aircraft Spruce.  If you go to their website, look for the Meggitt Tory oil cooler.  This is very similar to what I installed.  At time I got them, they were manufactured by PosiTech International and I have the original certificate of conformance. While I was at it, I upgraded the oil lines to a higher temperature rating hose. I replaced all the rubber bushings with the Lotus Polyurethane versions. This also included the rear trailing arm bushes.  Go to the Lotus Esprit World forum (LEW) and look up under maintenance section and then for the Lotus polybush upgrade. While I had the suspension apart, I put in new upper and lower ball joints and POR 15 coated the front and rear suspension arms. I then replaced the brake fuid. After completing the body repairs, I drove to NJ and had RS Motorsports replace the cam belts and put in a new tensioner assembly and idler bearing. When it was there, the ECU was sent to Lotus to be reflash with upgraded software. That was back in April 2009 when it had 18,992 miles (receipt available). A couple of years ago I added new tires:  Hankook Ventrus V12 285/35/ZR18 for the rear and 245/40ZR17 for the front.  Fast forward to 2014 and I added the 3m carbon fiber vinyl wrap to the bonnet and had the front of the car painted. I always liked the carbon fiber look (but not the price) and this was a relatively non permanent easy upgrade.

Many pictures can be seen at  http://s1280.photobucket.com/user/Medida/library/2001%20Lotus%20Esprit?sort=2&page=1   I have highlighted the pictures with titles to show specifics where the car is less than perfect

The one driver's seat has a torn on the yellow piping. I have no idea on how this happen, as I purchased the car that way. The passenger side front wheel has some paint scrap marks. There is a scratch on the driver rear wheel fender extension, a couple of small cracks on the passenger capping rail and some small stone chips on the sill panels. The driver sill (the portion exposed when the driver door is open) has had some touch up paint (I got it that way...thought it was a funny place to have touch up paint). Other than that, the car is in very nice condition for its age (I never drove the car in the winter. For that matter, I never drove the car in the rain). The front of the car has little to no chips, being repainted within the last year.

The car comes with one Key and one Key Fob and the audio system manual (see pics)

The AC blows cold and the car has been trouble free. I recently picked up another Lotus Esprit as a project car (this was a 1986 Lotus Esprit that had a serious engine fire and is a long term project). Have to many toys so decided it is now time to sell my 2001 Lotus Esprit.

The car shown in the pictures is the car for sale.

Lotus Esprit all but ready to go, but held back by management issues

Mon, 26 Nov 2012

Brief and disappointing is this report from Autocar on the status of the Lotus Esprit: it is finally ready and sitting at the light, but the light might not go green for a long time. The good news is that from being a concept two years ago at the Paris Motor Show, the aluminum and carbon fiber revival coupe is "purportedly almost finished." It is powered by a twin-turbo, 5.0-liter V8 with something like 650 horsepower, boosted by a kinetic energy recovery system (KERS) and shifting through a seven-speed paddleshift transmission. Even with all that, the UK price is said to be around that of a Porsche 911 4S Cabriolet, and the car only needs "signing off and minor tweaking."
The bad news is that former company owner Proton couldn't stay independent long enough to see through the company's ambitious five-concept-car assault - led by then-CEO Dany Bahar who was hired explicitly to lead such a campaign - and was swallowed up by Malaysian auto supplier DRB-Hicom. For a brief spell Lotus had to shut down production for lack of funds. Then the new owner cleaned house, sweeping out Bahar and, according to the Financial Times just one month ago, the Esprit and every other concept with it. Just after the FT piece came out, Lotus denied the Esprit had been canceled. Still, according to Autocar, the management whirlpool is keeping the Esprit "far from becoming a production reality."
If we're honest with ourselves, we'll keep in mind that the Esprit has been slipping into and out of a terminal ether for what seems like decades. None of us knows what is going on inside Hethel HQ, but the fact that there really is a lightweight, twin-turbo, 650-hp Lotus Esprit finally ready to be produced has to be, in spite of all else, very good news.

Lotus opens the 2013 Formula One season with the launch of the E21 [w/video]

Wed, 30 Jan 2013

Lotus has broken the seal on the 2013 Formula One season, launching the E21 car at its factory in Enstone. With the regulations this year quite similar to those of last year, there are no dramatic changes in form compared to the E20. After some teams lobbied to be able to cover the stepped nose with a "vanity panel," Lotus retained the configuration, the team's technical director saying that the panel would add more weight and didn't make sense to put on the car unless it also added performance.
Beyond that, the E21 is said to be an comprehensive advance in its details - the suspension gets a new layout, the Coanda exhaust and the passive double DRS system are evolutions from last year, the front wing is "a continuation of concepts" from 2009.
After securing fourth in the Constructor's Championship last year, this is the chassis that drivers Kimi Räikkönen and Romain Grosjean will use to try and move the team up a place, which would mean beating one of the big three teams over the course of the season. The quietly and impressively consistent Räikkönen managed third in the Driver's Championship, and we're sure he wouldn't mind a move up in the standings, either.

Coca-Cola returning to F1 with Lotus sponsorship [w/videos]

Sat, 24 Nov 2012

Even before Red Bull Racing became a record-breaking three-time Constructor's Champion in Formula One, it has dominated conversations both as a team and as an energy drink. After seven years of "Red Bull this" and "Red Bull that," Coca-Cola is reportedly ready to jump into the F1 fray with its Sweden-based energy drink Burn.
Rumors had placed Coca-Cola's entry with McLaren F1, but it's actually Lotus that has secured the deal. We have no idea what the sponsorship will look like, but the website for Burn says that "We [intend] to foster that creativity by incorporating art and music in a way that will break the conventions of traditional F1 sponsorship," Lotus F1 team principal Eric Boullier adding "We are excited to partner with burn to build a new and innovative model for sponsorships that will combine experiences, content creation and social media..."
Since most - including this writer - have no idea what Burn is, we've included a couple of Burn commercial spots to help get us up to speed, which you'll find below. The 2012 season hasn't even ended, and we're already looking forward to 2013...
